Angkor National Museum - In the afternoon, begin your tour at the Angkor National Museum, an archaeological museum dedicated to the collection, preservation, and presentation of Angkorian artifacts. The collections primarily date from the Khmer Empire’s Angkor period, circa the 9th to 14th centuries, with most artifacts discovered in and around the nearby Angkor archaeological sites.

Then, explore the mountains, waterfalls, and remote temples of Phnom Kulen and the Roluos Group of temples. Pick-up is at 8:00 am in your hotel lobby for a 2-hour journey through rural Cambodia to the first destination. Considered by Khmers as the most sacred mountain in Cambodia, it is a place of pilgrimage. Main stops at Phnom Kulen include admiring the panoramic views from the massive reclining Buddha, the largest of its kind in Cambodia, the “River of a Thousand Lingas” with sacred carvings on the riverbanks, and the waterfalls of Phnom Kulen. Enjoy a dip in the cool waters and visit the nearby temple ruins.

Bakong - Your tour guide will then take you back to ancient times before the Angkorian period, where you will visit the first Angkorian capital of the Roluos group with three temples: Bakong, Lolei, and Preah Ko, located 11 kilometers southeast of the Siem Reap Market. These temples are close together and extend over an area of three kilometers (1.9 miles) east of the Great Lake. The Roluos group, dating from the late ninth century, is the earliest site of the 600-year Angkor Period open to visitors. The three temples in this important group share similar architectural, decorative, material, and construction characteristics, marking the beginning of the Classic Period of Khmer art.
