Angkor Thom - After securing tickets for Angkor Park, the journey begins at Angkor Thom, heading straight to Bayon Temple, renowned for its numerous stone-carved faces.
Bayon Temple - Bayon Temple is famous for its impressive stone faces. It’s worth spending an hour here. Nearby is Baphoun Temple, which is also worth a quick visit.
Terrace of the Leper King - Continuing the exploration, the next stops are the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King, both located within Angkor Thom.
Angkor Wat - Following a lunch break at a nearby restaurant, the tour proceeds to the main attraction, Angkor Wat. This expansive complex invites visitors to climb to the top, making it a longer stop.
Phnom Bakheng - The final destination is Phnom Bakheng, where visitors often join a large crowd at the summit of this ancient temple. Arriving early is advisable due to the limited number of visitors allowed at the top.
Kulen Waterfall and the Giant Buddha
Central Market - The day begins at 8:30 am, departing Siem Reap for the long drive to Kulen Mountain, approximately 45 km away. Bringing a book or entertainment is recommended.
1000 Lingas - En route to Kulen, a stop is made at the river of 1000 lingas. If the river’s flow is gentle, numerous lingas carved into the stone riverbed can be seen.
Phnom Kulen National Park - Upon arrival at Phnom Kulen (meaning mountain of lychees), the tour continues to two waterfalls where guests can swim. The small fish that may nibble at dead skin are similar to those in town’s fish baths, and there is no charge for this experience at the waterfall.
Phnom Kulen National Park - From the waterfall, a short trek leads to the Preah Ang Thom pagoda, where the giant reclining Buddha can be viewed. Visitors may also receive a blessing of holy water.
Phnom Kulen National Park - After lunch on the mountain, the journey continues downwards towards Banteay Srei, with a stop to observe Sugar Palm production or visit the landmine museum.
Banteay Srei - Known by several names such as “Lady Temple,” “Tiny Temple,” and “Pink Temple,” Banteay Srei is unique. Originally named Tribhuvanamahesvara, the modern name Banteay Srei means “citadel of the women.”
Banteay Samre - The tour then visits Banteay Samre and Pre Rup temples before returning to the hotel around 6:30 pm.
Angkor Sunrise and Grand Tour
Angkor Wat - The day starts early, leaving town by 5:00 am to reach Angkor Wat in time for a beautiful and spiritual sunrise, perfect for photography.
Central Market - After sunrise, the tour returns to town for guests to enjoy their inclusive breakfast at the hotel.
Preah Khan - The tour returns to Angkor, stopping at Preah Khan (meaning “The Sacred Sword”), a large temple complex built to commemorate the King’s victory over the Chams (now Vietnam) in 1191.
Neak Pean - The journey continues with visits to a series of temples: Neak Pean, Ta Som, and East Mebon, all located along the road. Neak Pean is an artificial island with a Buddhist temple on a circular island in Jayatataka Baray. After visiting many temples, a stop for a local lunch is needed.
Ta Prohm - After lunch, the tour proceeds to Ta Nei, Ta Prohm, and Banteay Kdei temples. Ta Prohm is famous for the ancient trees whose roots intertwine with the temple’s masonry, and it was featured in the Tomb Raider movie starring Angelina Jolie. The tour returns to town around 3 pm.
Beng Mealea and Tonle Sap
Siem Reap Shuttle Tours - The day begins at 8:30 am, heading directly to Koh Ker, a journey of about 117 km. It’s a good time to relax with a book for the long drive.
Koh Ker Temple - This remote area, largely unexplored, has no towns and only a small village nearby. Koh Ker was once an ancient capital of Cambodia, located on the Chhork Koki highland. Built by King Jayavarman IV (AD 928-942), Koh Ker Temple stands 35 meters high and resembles a seven-stepped stupa, dedicated to Treypuvanesvara, the god of happiness. So far, 96 temples have been discovered around Koh Ker.
Beng Mealea - After visiting Koh Ker, a meal is enjoyed before heading back towards town, stopping at the ruins of Beng Mealea Temple, a Hindu temple. Beng Mealea remains largely unrestored, with trees and thick brush thriving among its towers and courtyards, and many stones lying in heaps. It was once unpopular due to difficult access and its distance of 77 km from Siem Reap. After exploring Beng Mealea, the long drive back to town begins, arriving around 6:30 pm.
Tonle Sap and Downtown
Tonle Sap Lake - The day’s tour starts at 8:30 am and lasts about 10 hours. The tour heads directly to the floating village at Tonle Sap, approximately 30 km from town, where guests enjoy a motorized boat ride around the floating villages, experiencing a unique way of life. After lunch, the tour returns to town, stopping at Phsar Leur, the old market, and Artisans d’Angkor, with drop-off at the guest hotel around 5:00 pm.
