- Angkor Wat - Begin the morning by exploring Angkor Wat, Cambodia’s ancient temple city, renowned as one of the wonders of the Eastern world. This site is celebrated for its exquisite decorative details and architectural style, with its impressive ruins standing as a testament to the remarkable achievements of Southeast Asia’s greatest civilization. Angkor Wat is a representation of the universe according to Hindu mythology, featuring Mount Meru surrounded by continents and oceans. Its extraordinary bas-reliefs depict various Khmer epics and myths. The temple’s five iconic towers ascend into the sky, forming a geometric arrangement of numerous galleries adorned with beliefs, stone images of celestial Apsara dancers, portals, chambers, and courtyards.
- Ta Prohm Temple - Continue the journey to Ta Prohm Temple, a serene, expansive monastic complex partially reclaimed by jungle growth. It offers some of the best “tree-in-temple” photo opportunities within the Angkor Complex.
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in the Angkor area.
- The Victory Gate - In the afternoon, after lunch, proceed to the Victory Gate of Angkor Thom, passing through the parkland behind the Terrace of The Elephants. Walk past Phimeanakas and the Baphuon temple, concluding at Bayon.
- Terrace of the Elephants - Visit the Terrace of the Elephants, part of the walled city of Angkor Thom, a ruined temple complex in Cambodia. This terrace was used by Angkor’s king Jayavarman VII as a platform to view his victorious returning army.
- Phimeanakas - Walk past the Phimeanakas temple, known in Khmer as Prasat Phimean Akas, meaning celestial temple. It is situated in the center of the old Royal Palace, aligned with King Jayavarman VII’s Victory Gate and to the west side of the Terrace of Elephants.
- Baphuon Temple - Continue to Baphuon Temple, located near Phimeanakas. Baphuon is a stunning 11th-century “temple-mountain” with steep stairs leading visitors to a terrace that offers one of the best views in the Angkor Archaeological Park. Archaeologists believe this pyramid-style temple, situated within the city of Angkor Thom, was likely among the most impressive of the Angkor temples in its time.
- Bayon Temple - Proceed to Bayon Temple, one of the most famous, popular, and beautiful structures in the Angkor Wat Archaeological Park.
- Phnom Bakheng - Conclude the day with a sunset view at Phnom Bakheng. Phnom Bakheng is the highest point to view the sunset in the Archaeological Park. Bakheng Temple is built atop a natural mountain where tourists gather in the late afternoon to watch the sunset. This tour allows visitors to explore all the main temples of Angkor, including Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm, and Bayon in Angkor Thom, finishing with the sunset at Phnom Bakheng Hill.
