Originally established by the Spanish in the early 1500s, Rincon was strategically located in a valley to protect against pirate attacks and other threats.
In the 17th century, enslaved individuals were brought to Bonaire to work on the crops and salt pans until 1863. Residing in Rincon, the enslaved men would embark on a 7-hour journey south for work, returning on weekends to gather supplies at Mangazina di Rei (King’s storehouse) and visit their families.
The tour includes a stop at the Cadushi distillery, where visitors can enjoy a complimentary tasting of the local cactus liquor made in Bonaire.
Following the Cadushi visit, the final stop is at a local restaurant called Posada, where guests can savor native island cuisine and experience the local flavors.
