- Bay of Kotor - Near the quaint village of Rose, there are three remarkable Submarine Tunnels constructed by the Yugoslav Army. The exterior of the entrance is cleverly camouflaged with artificial rocks to remain undetectable by satellites or spy planes. When it is said that this tunnel is Montenegro’s best-hidden gem, it is meant quite literally. Built in the 1970s by the Yugoslav Navy, this tunnel was crafted to discreetly accommodate submarines and small ships. The entrance is uniquely designed with fake rocks to keep it hidden from prying eyes. This tunnel is part of an intriguing and lesser-known network of similar tunnels and stealth sites developed by the Yugoslav Army along the Montenegrin and Croatian coasts. Two smaller tunnels are nearby, but the one near Rose is the largest, the most captivating to explore, and the only one that formerly housed submarines.
- Mamula Fortress - Constructed in 1853, the Mamula Fortress was built during the Austro-Hungarian rule over Montenegro. Named after the Austro-Hungarian general Lazarus von Mamula, who commissioned its construction, Mamula is situated between two other fortifications from the same era – Fort Arza, Luštica, and Cape Ostro on the opposite side. The location was chosen for its strategic position at the bay’s entrance, but Mamula’s story extends beyond that. During both world wars, it served as a prison due to its isolated location. It gained a notorious reputation during World War II when Benito Mussolini’s forces converted it into a concentration camp. Tales of unspeakable horrors still echo today. After this dark chapter, the island and fortress remained abandoned for many years. Currently, Mamula is set to become a tourist resort, a project that has received mixed reactions from locals due to its somber history.
- Blue Cave - The Blue Cave is the largest among numerous sea caves on the Lustica Peninsula. It is named the Blue Cave because the way light interacts with the sandy bottom and reflects through the water gives the entire cave a blue hue. It is stunningly beautiful and a fortunate anomaly, as most of the coastline here is rocky, not sandy. The blue light is visible from outside the cave, but to truly appreciate it, one must venture inside and go underwater. Remember to bring a snorkel or goggles when visiting!
- Our Lady of the Rocks - Our Lady of the Rocks is one of two stunning islands in Kotor Bay, located across from Perast. The other island is Sveti Djordje. Our Lady of the Rocks is an artificial island, said to have been created by sailors from Perast and Kotor, who brought large stones on their sailing ships. There is a church on the island, and according to legend, a fisherman from Perast discovered an icon of the Holy Mother of God with Christ on a sea rock after a shipwreck near the island. As tradition dictates, they vowed to build a church on the island, which was completed in 1630. To maintain the island, sailors continued to bring stones, a tradition that persists today. Entrance to the church is free, and museum entry costs 2 euros per ticket.
- Perast - Enjoy a panoramic view of the picturesque city of Perast.
