- Sabah - The Kadazandusun people of Sabah have a tradition of cultivating paddy. Those residing in the hills and further inland grow dry paddy, while those in coastal plains and valleys cultivate the wet variety.
- Sabah - A Rungus Longhouse consists of 7 to 15 family apartments. These traditional longhouses are constructed from wood, bamboo, and atap (palm leaves). To prevent flooding and avoid wildlife like snakes, the houses are elevated on stilts made from durable woods such as bogil, belian ironwood, mangrove wood, and manzalangan. The roofs, made from dry palm leaves of sago or nipah, require replacement every 3 to 5 years.
- Sabah - The Lun Bawang people are traditionally agriculturalists, raising poultry, pigs, and buffaloes. They are also known as hunters and fishermen. Meat and fish are preserved by brining or pickling with salt and stored in hollow bamboo stalks for a month. Smoking is another method of preservation. Salt is obtained by evaporating brine from salt springs.
- Sabah - Known to Westerners as Sea Gypsies, the Bajau were originally seafarers. Now, they are divided into two groups: East Coast Bajau and West Coast Bajau. The West Coast Bajau have settled and mastered farming and cattle rearing, earning a reputation for their horsemanship as the renowned cowboys of Sabah. In contrast, the East Coast Bajau maintain traditional lifestyles, with fishing as their primary activity, and some continue as nomadic boat dwellers. The Bajau are adept fishermen.
- Sabah - The Murut were the last ethnic group in Sabah to abandon headhunting. They practiced shifting cultivation of hill paddy and tapioca, supplementing their diet with blowpipe hunting and some fishing. They reside in communal longhouses, typically near rivers, which serve as their main transportation routes.
