Riding the Waves: My Speed Boat Adventure from Koh Lipe to Koh Lanta
Eager to explore the Andaman Sea, I embarked on a thrilling speed boat journey from Koh Lipe to Koh Lanta. This high-speed adventure promised scenic views and the chance to connect with fellow travelers.
Setting Sail from Koh Lipe
As a digital nomad, I’m always on the lookout for unique and budget-friendly ways to explore Southeast Asia. When I heard about the speed boat journey from Koh Lipe to Koh Lanta, I knew it was a must-try. The journey promised not only a thrilling ride across the Andaman Sea but also a chance to meet fellow travelers and share stories of our adventures.
I arrived at Pattaya Beach on Koh Lipe, where the Pakbara Speed Boat Club crew was waiting in front of Bu-Nga Resort. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as travelers gathered, eager to embark on this high-speed adventure. I made sure to arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled departure, as advised, to soak in the vibrant energy and chat with other backpackers.
The Thrill of the Ride
Once aboard, the speed boat roared to life, and we were off, slicing through the azure waters. The journey was exhilarating, with the wind in my hair and the sun on my face. We made short stopovers at the southern islands of Koh Lanta, picking up and dropping off other travelers. Each stop was a brief glimpse into the island life, adding to the allure of the trip.
However, one thing to note for future travelers is the lack of restroom facilities on the boat. After indulging in three coffees with breakfast, I found myself wishing for a loo. It’s a small inconvenience, but one worth preparing for if you’re planning to enjoy a leisurely breakfast before the trip.
Arrival at Koh Lanta
After over three hours of cruising, we arrived at Saladan Pier on Koh Lanta Yai. The journey, though long, was a fantastic way to travel between islands, offering both speed and scenic views. Upon arrival, it was easy to grab a taxi to my accommodation, and I was ready to explore the charms of Koh Lanta.
This speed boat journey is a seasonal treat, operating only from October to April, so if you’re planning a trip during these months, it’s an experience not to be missed. Whether you’re a solo traveler like me or with a group, the speed boat journey is a perfect blend of adventure and convenience, making it a highlight of my Southeast Asian travels.
