One of the best experiences you could ask for - Our journey started at 02:30am and was made super convenient by the hotel pickup. The driver Krisna, did a great job navigating the sometimes rocky terrain and avoiding the many dogs who were in the middle of the road in the dead of night. He was kind and knowledgeable about the area and made me feel immediately comfortable.
Once we reached the foot of the mountain, we had some tea and used the restroom before the 90 or so minute steep climb. There were also jackets and blankets for rent, if you had forgotten yours (it does get chilly at the top).
I travelled solo, but was paired with other two girls so the climb was made even more fun as it was the four of us including the guide, Wayan. I couldn’t have asked for a better guide as he was patient, made sure no one was left behind and there were ample breaks. He also has a great sense of humour and a wealth of knowledge, so we were having a great time.
I have to admit that it was much steeper than I had imagined and quickly became tired, thankfully once we got to about 30% mark there were bikes we could take 90% up the mountain (about 10-15USD extra). I took up the offer and was so grateful I did as at this point I had been awake for almost 24h and just didn’t have the energy to make it all the way there.
The bike ride was so much fun and I’d definitely do it again. My driver Kadek helped me to climb the rest of the way and we were joined by Riki who sells handmade bracelets. Both were beautiful souls and honestly made my experience even better. We climbed to the top just as the first rays were appearing and watched the sunrise.
Once my guide joined we had breakfast, he also showed really cool trick up at the top with the steam. Who knew that you could cook eggs at a top of a volcano?
Just as we were leaving many monkeys came to the top and we fed them bananas and they even sat on my lap.
It was a truly magical experience and I would recommend it to anyone as long as they can make the climb as it is quite steep, but you can take a bike 90% of the way to the top.
I just want to thank everyone again for an amazing time and I look forward to doing this again.
Main things to remember if you go:
- Bring a light jacket as it gets chilly and may rain
- Wear shoes with a lot of grip as the terrain is unsteady
- It’s useful to bring cash for tips, to purchase food and drinks but you can also pay by card for the bike ride and bracelets
- Bring your own food/water for the climb as you will get tired and thirsty and food/drinks is only available to be purchased at certain points
- It is very steep and there’s lots of loose rubble so bring a flashlight if you are climbing before sunrise
- You can take a Jeep to 30% of the way and then a bike to 90% but the climb even after that can be tough but it so worth it
- If you go behind the huts, there are steam vents and there’s a cool trick with the steam + incense (you’ll understand once you see it)
- Once at the top there was a dog, even a cat and many monkeys (they loooove bananas) and are a lot friendlier than the ones in the Monkey Forest
- If this is your first mountain climb, then know your limits and taking the bike up to the mountain is so much fun! The ride down is also fun but next time I’d probably walk down and be actually well rested before attempting the climb 😅
If you go, enjoy as it’s a truly wonderful experience!
After the climb a chocolate/coffee growing place tour was also included and even though I was tired I’m so glad I still went. It was completely free and we got to taste many wonderful drinks and chocolates all grown and produced on the food forest farm (completely organic) and learn about the manual process of producing coffee. There were many delicious flavours and I’d love to go again just to buy some more of the products as they are only sold on the farm and the coffee mixes they have there are some of the most delicious I’ve had.

Unforgettable sunrise hike to Mt Batur - Wonderful experience — truly one of the three most beautiful memories we have from Bali.
The communication with our guide and driver, John, was absolutely spotless. He arrived on time, was an amazing conversation partner, and drove us very safely. Always positive and smiling, he made us feel welcome and fully supported throughout the trip.
The hike itself starts early in the morning, but it’s absolutely worth it. It can be a bit challenging, so take your time and don’t rush — the final view will blow you away. The panorama of the lake, the villages, and the volcanoes is unforgettable. These are the kinds of moments in life that simply should not be missed.
Our guide during the hike was named Kutu, and he was extremely thoughtful, offering me little breaks whenever I needed them. He also prepared breakfast for us and took amazing pictures and videos. He was intelligent, funny, kind, and very welcoming.
On the way back, we stopped in a local village to see the terraced fields for vegetables and rice. Afterwards, we visited the healing thermal springs and a coffee plantation. This area of Bali is wonderful — not overcrowded, and perfect for truly experiencing Balinese nature, authentic life, and its unique atmosphere.

5* for both drivers and guide. We would highly recomend this company for mt batur and more. - We would highly recomend this company.
We done Mt Batur hike, black lava patch and coffer plantation.
We were picked up from ubud and driven to kintamani and back, driver helpful and full of local information.
Once at kintamani we had bali coffee and biscuits.
Then transferd to 4x4 jeep, new driver was excellent at navigating steep volcano road, a fun experiance.
At the start of walking trail we meet adi our local hiking guide who again was full of information about the area and volcano.
He made us breakfast at the top, cooked in the steam of volcano and was more than happy to take a lot of photos of us and sunrise.
Once at bottom of the hill we got back into jeep with same driver who again explained about the surrounding villages and farmlands and drove us to black lava patch for a 4x4 photo shoot.
Last stop we are back in the car with krisna to coffee plantation and back to ubud.
Overall both drivers and hiking guide were excellent, both for your safety and information about the trip.
5 * for everone.
I will use them again next time.

Amazing Sunrise Experience at Mount Batur! - We did the Mount Batur sunrise hike in early November, and it was an amazing experience. The hike to the summit took around 1 hour and 15 minutes at a steady pace – definitely manageable if you’re in decent shape, though there are some steeper and rocky sections. The way down took about an hour, and with time spent at the top watching the sunrise, the total outing was roughly 5 hours.
The views at the summit were absolutely stunning. Watching the sun rise over the clouds and across the surrounding volcanic landscape felt truly special. Our guide was extremely friendly and attentive – he helped us in trickier parts of the trail, took photos for everyone, and even prepared a simple breakfast for us at the summit.
It does get surprisingly chilly and windy at the top before the sun comes up, so I’d definitely recommend bringing warm layers. There were a few merchants selling hot drinks and blankets up there, but we didn’t feel pressured – just something to be aware of.
Another plus was that it wasn’t too crowded at this time of year. There were other groups, of course, but we still had plenty of space to enjoy the view peacefully.
Overall, a fantastic experience and one of the highlights of our trip. Highly recommended!

Good job Putu - Putu was an amazing and polite tour guide. He took us to mountain, hotspring and coffee plantation. I had a great time with them. Also the other best thing happened in our one day tour was my tour mate gave the ring to his fiance on top of the mountain. Thank you 🙂

Bali from different perspectives.. - Very early getting up and arriving which is however more than rewarded by magnificent panorama and views..
The climb is a challenging affair..
Condition should be present to achieve the worthwhile goal..
An experienced guide is important and Adi the young student from the cozy idyllic village at the foot of the volcano is very much responsible for this beautiful memory..
We are grateful to have him with us..

Mount Batur - We went with Margi to Mount Batur, before the climb we were treated to coffee and given trekking poles, the guide was very attentive, kept the whole group together, always waited for those who lagged behind and made stops along the way! On the mountain itself there was an excellent breakfast and Margi personally did a photo shoot for everyone, thank you very much!
