- Kilfenora - Explore the intriguing history of Kilfenora, the world’s smallest city, famously known as the City of Crosses for its remarkable collection of ancient high crosses in Ireland. This charming village not only features its own medieval Cathedral from 1058 but also uniquely claims the Pope as its Bishop. This engaging guided tour delves into the distinctive archaeology, legends, folklore, and history of a village that has been a center of ecclesiastical beginnings, unique farming practices, and, more recently, a pioneer in environmental tourism.
- Kilfenora Cathedral & Crosses - St. Fachnan established a monastery here in the 6th century. The Cathedral was constructed in 1058, marking the establishment of the Kilfenora diocese, the smallest in the country, where the Pope still serves as bishop. Experience the spiritual elements nestled among the ruins and landscapes of the ‘City,’ including the Holy Well, the High Crosses, and the Spirituality of a Landscape that dates back to the Stone Age.
- The Burren Visitor Centre - The Village Tour also grants access to The Burren Exhibition, which introduces visitors to one of nature’s most extraordinary phenomena, detailing the geology, formation, fauna, and diverse flora, where native species thrive alongside Arctic, Alpine, and Mediterranean plants. It also explores the history of the Burren people, their monuments, archaeology, and culture. An exclusive short film by naturalist Éamon de Buitléar beautifully showcases the Burren Landscape, while a Digital Story Trail is accessible via QR code.
