A Journey Begins: From Kigali to Bwindi

The allure of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest had been calling me for years, and finally, the opportunity to embark on a 2-Day Gorilla Trek presented itself. Starting from Kigali, the journey was a seamless blend of modernity and nature. Our guide, Alex, was more than just a guide; he was a companion, ensuring every detail was meticulously planned. His dedication was evident when he chose to stay nearby our hotel to ensure we wouldn’t miss a moment of this adventure.

The drive from Kigali to Bwindi was a visual feast. As we crossed the border into Uganda, the landscape transformed into rolling hills and lush greenery. The anticipation built with every mile, and by the time we reached Bwindi, the excitement was palpable. The forest, dense and mysterious, promised an encounter with the majestic mountain gorillas that I had longed to photograph.

The Encounter: Face to Face with Gorillas

The morning of the trek was filled with a mix of excitement and nervous energy. After a hearty breakfast, we donned our trekking gear and set off into the forest. The trails were rugged, but the promise of seeing gorillas kept our spirits high. To our astonishment, the gorillas made their way to the car park, a rare occurrence that left us in awe. The rangers mentioned it was a once-in-two-years event, and I felt incredibly fortunate to witness it.

Capturing these magnificent creatures through my lens was a dream come true. Their gentle demeanor and striking resemblance to humans were mesmerizing. My mother, who accompanied me, was equally thrilled, her eyes reflecting the joy of this once-in-a-lifetime experience. After the trek, Alex surprised us with an opportunity to visit a nearby Pygmy community, adding another layer of cultural richness to our journey.

Beyond Bwindi: A Continued Adventure

Our adventure didn’t end in Bwindi. After a delightful meal in Kabale, we decided to extend our stay in Uganda. Alex and Timothy, the manager, were instrumental in arranging our transport and accommodations, ensuring our journey was smooth and enjoyable. Their network and expertise opened doors to new experiences, including a visit to Queen Elizabeth National Park.
