Kigali - Upon arrival at Kigali airport, a representative will greet you and transfer you to your hotel for an overnight stay. You will receive a briefing on your safari.

JOURNEY TO NYUNGWE NATIONAL PARK

National Museum of Rwanda - After breakfast, you will be picked up and depart for Nyungwe National Park, approximately a 6½-hour drive via Butare. Along the way, visit the renowned National Museum in Butare and the historic King’s Palace in Nyanza. Ethnographic artifacts are organized by theme, providing valuable insights into daily life. Traditional ceramics and basketry, some of the region’s finest handicrafts, are still produced. Remarkably, the National Museum was untouched during the 1994 civil war. Enjoy lunch in Butare before continuing to Nyungwe National Park, arriving for dinner and an overnight stay at your hotel.

CHIMPANZEE TREK, NYUNGWE NATIONAL PARK + CANOPY WALK

Nyungwe Forest National Park - After an early breakfast, drive to the park’s starting point for your chimpanzee trek, with a packed lunch. Nyungwe National Park is the largest expanse of montane forest in East and Central Africa, rich in biodiversity. Later, embark on a nature walk to visit Kamiranzovu waterfall. The forest boasts at least 200 tree species, over 280 bird species, and more than 100 types of colorful butterflies, offering a sensory feast for nature enthusiasts. In the afternoon, enjoy a canopy walk, providing a bird’s-eye view of the Nyungwe forest. Return for dinner and an overnight stay at your hotel.

TRAVEL TO LAKE KIVU (GISENYI)

Lake Kivu - After breakfast, drive along Lake Kivu to the northern resort town of Rubavu. The road offers stunning views of the lake and the rolling Rwandan countryside. Have lunch at Karongi before continuing to Rubavu for an overnight stay. Spend the afternoon relaxing on the sandy beaches.

TRIP TO VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK

Volcanoes National Park - After breakfast, consider an optional boat ride to explore nearby islands, and if time allows, take a city tour of Gisenyi. Then, drive to Musanze, arriving at the Red Rocks Intercultural Exchange Center for lunch. Join local brew makers to learn about the process of brewing local beer from bananas. If interested, participate in squeezing juice from bananas and enjoy a glass of juice (optional). Discover how long it takes for the juice to ferment into alcohol after adding sorghum flour. Enjoy a glass of the local brew. Other activities include basket weaving, and your visit supports the local community and families financially. Later, drive to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

MOUNTAIN GORILLA TRACKING, VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK

Volcanoes National Park - After an early breakfast, proceed to the National Park headquarters at Kinigi to meet your guides. After completing park formalities, embark on a once-in-a-lifetime experience of tracking mountain gorillas. Once spotted, you can spend an unforgettable hour observing these magnificent creatures. Return to your hotel for lunch, and later in the afternoon, visit the stunning twin lakes Bulera & Ruhondo.

GOLDEN MONKEY TREK & DEPARTURE

Volcanoes National Park - After breakfast, drive to the RDB park headquarters and enter the forest to trek the golden monkey, a species related to the blue monkey found only in the Virunga area. The trek lasts until midday, followed by lunch. In the afternoon, drive back to Kigali airport for your outbound flight.
