Volcanoes National Park Rwanda - In Musanze, a visit to the Gorilla Guardian Village (formerly Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village) is planned. This award-winning initiative, established in 2004, is fully owned by local communities. Since its inception, the Gorilla Guardian Village has played a significant role in enhancing the livelihoods of communities residing near the Volcanoes National Park, home to the mountain gorillas. The venture provides employment to numerous former poachers and potential poachers, thereby reducing human pressure on the Volcanoes National Park.

Mountain Gorilla Trekking and Lake Kivu
Volcanoes National Park - The morning begins at 6:00 am as gorilla trekkers are required to be at the park headquarters by 7:00 am. Mountain gorillas are found only in two locations worldwide: the Virunga Massif, a volcanic range spanning Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda. After equipping themselves with essential gorilla trekking gear (hiking boots, long trousers, gloves, etc.), the park’s head ranger will organize trekkers into groups based on fitness levels.
The mountain gorillas you will observe are families that have been habituated. As the trek progresses deeper into the forest, guides will point out signs of previous gorilla activity such as dung, nests, and chewed bamboo shoots. Once located, you will have the opportunity to spend one hour with them. Despite their intimidating size, there is no need to worry!
Lake Kivu Rwanda - After gorilla trekking, you will return to the hotel for lunch and later embark on a one-hour journey to the picturesque Lake Kivu in Kibuye, one of Africa’s Great Lakes that spans Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The afternoon will be spent on the Rwandan shore of the lake. Enjoy a sunset cruise as the Singing Fishermen of Lake Kivu set out in their three-hulled fishing boats. With long poles attached to their bows and sterns, these fascinating boats become silhouetted against the darkening sky. In small groups, they venture a few kilometers into the lake to cast their nets and fish throughout the night.
Nyungwe National Park Chimpanzee Tracking & Canopy Walk
Nyungwe Forest National Park - After breakfast, a two-hour drive will take you to Nyungwe National Park. Today, you will have an up-close encounter with Nyungwe National Park’s most famous residents: chimpanzees! As the memorable trek begins, you will hear them before seeing them, hooting somewhere deep in the forest. During the trek, you might also spot primates like colobus monkeys and observe other forest inhabitants such as birds.
Nyungwe Canopy Walk - Later in the afternoon, you will drive to the Uwinka Visitor Center for the canopy tour. The two-hour walk above the forest offers impressive views of Nyungwe Forest and the diverse species that thrive there, including primates and birds. After the memorable chimp trekking and canopy walk, you will check into the hotel for relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay.
Visit King’s Palace Museum (Nyanza)
Exploring Nyanza Culture and History - After breakfast at the hotel, you will drive to the newly built King’s Palace in Nyanza. The journey to this historic museum takes two hours from Nyungwe National Park. The King’s Palace Museum, located in Nyanza District, offers detailed insights into Rwanda’s monarchical system and its abolition in the early 1960s due to colonialism. The palace has been restored to its 19th-century state as a replica, made entirely with traditional materials. The visit will last one hour, after which you will have lunch in Huye City and proceed to Kigali City.
