Kigali Genocide Memorial - After breakfast, an Afri Safaris guide will collect you from your hotel or accommodation in Kigali around 8 AM. Following a brief introduction, you’ll embark on a city tour, heading to the Kigali Genocide Memorial site, concluding at 10 AM.

10 AM Departing Kigali for Akagera National Park, expect a 2.5 to 3-hour drive with a knowledgeable local driver guide from Afri Safaris. Travel is provided in a premium 4×4 safari vehicle equipped with Wi-Fi to keep you connected with loved ones and the world.

Bashana Companies & Imigongo Art Center - 11:30 AM Stop at Bashana Companies & Imigongo Art Center, 4F4C+C4J, Kayonza. Enjoy a 45-minute break at Imigongo Art Center for lunch, coffee, restroom, snacks, and to explore arts, crafts, and relax.

Akagera National Park - 12:30 PM After lunch, you’ll be transferred to Akagera National Park, approximately a 1-hour drive.

4:30 PM - 6 PM Sunset Boat Departure

The sunset boat trip in Akagera National Park departs daily from Lake Ihema at 4:30 PM for an approximately one-hour cruise, offering views of hippos, crocodiles, and a stunning sunset.

Hot Air Balloon Ride, Safari Game Drive, and Night Game Drive

Akagera National Park - Hot Air Balloon

5:40 AM pick-up from the hotel for a one-way trip to the hot air balloon site.

Enjoy a welcome breakfast while observing the balloon preparation.

• The balloon ride lasts 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on wind direction, and is conducted only at sunrise.
Visitors participating in the hot air balloon tour in Akagera National Park should arrive at the takeoff site by 5:15 AM (this time may vary with dawn). Royal Balloon Rwanda staff will greet you and provide information as you watch the balloon being prepared.

While enjoying your early morning coffee and snack, our skilled pilots begin inflating the balloon, offering you the chance to capture stunning photographs.

The experience concludes with a champagne celebration after landing, as is traditional for hot air balloons, and you will receive a flight certificate signed by our pilots as a keepsake of this incredible day.

Guests are encouraged to wear covered shoes and bring a coat due to the cool temperature.

Akagera National Park - After your morning hot air balloon ride over Akagera National Park, embark on a full-day game drive, traveling north through the park and stopping for a picnic lunch at the Mihindi Picnic area. This full-day activity allows you to observe various animals, including the “Big Five,” grazing and hunting, and the day concludes with a drop-off at Karenge Bush Camp.

Take time to freshen up and relax before a night game drive in Kilala Plain, the north of the park.

Akagera National Park - 5 AM Before breakfast, you’ll be picked up by an Afri Safaris driver guide to start an early morning safari game drive in Kilala Plain and Nyamatete, offering more opportunities to spot big cats and other nocturnal animals.

9:00 AM - 9:30 AM Breakfast

10 AM Hotel checkout and return to Kigali, with an estimated 3 to 3.5-hour drive.

Exit the park from the north and return to Kigali.
