Arrival in Kigali – Rwanda

Kigali Genocide Memorial - Upon arrival at the airport, you will be picked up and transferred to Hotel Milles Collines in Kigali. Early arrivals have the option to explore Kigali city and its surrounding areas.

Transfer to Bukavu- DR Congo

National Museum of Rwanda - In the morning, your driver will pick you up from your hotel in Kigali and drive south to the Cyangugu border en route to Bukavu in DR Congo. There will be a stop in Butare to visit the National Museum of Rwanda, the king’s palace in Nyanza, and the Rwanda genocide memorial site. After lunch, continue on a scenic drive to Bukavu, enjoying the beautiful views of Rwanda’s hills through the tropical forest of Nyungwe National Park and a clear view of Lake Kivu.

Lowland Gorilla Tracking Tour in Kahuzi Biega – DR Congo

Kahuzi-Biega National Park - In the morning, embark on an unforgettable adventure tracking the lowland gorillas in Kahuzi Biega National Park. Tracking these gorillas is an incredible experience; they are larger than mountain gorillas and tracking them usually takes 1-4 hours. Lowland gorillas live in larger families compared to mountain gorillas. The effort of the safari will be well worth it when you encounter these magnificent gorillas! Later in the afternoon, return to your hotel.

Transfer to Goma

Virunga National Park - Mount Nyiragongo & Mountain Gorilla Treks - In the morning, take a speed boat from Bukavu to Goma, a journey of about 3 hours. Upon arrival in Goma, transfer to Lake Kivu Lodge for rest and overnight stay. In the afternoon, enjoy a tour of Goma city before returning to your hotel.

Transfer to Virunga National Park

Virunga National Park - Mount Nyiragongo & Mountain Gorilla Treks - At 11:30 am, you will be picked up from the hotel and transferred to Virunga National Park. In the afternoon, enjoy a nature walk and bird watching in Kibumba Village.

Mountain Gorilla Trekking

Virunga National Park - Mount Nyiragongo & Mountain Gorilla Treks - After an early breakfast at Kibumba Tented Camp, trekkers will descend the hill to meet their Ranger guides for a briefing before the gorilla trek. The trek usually involves 1-2.5 hours of hiking each way, depending on the location of the gorilla group and the terrain’s difficulty. After spending the allotted hour with the gorilla family, trekkers will return to camp, enjoy a late lunch, and have the rest of the day at leisure.

Nyiragongo Hike

Virunga National Park - Mount Nyiragongo & Mountain Gorilla Treks - After breakfast in Kibumba, proceed to Kibati Ranger post at 8:15 am, the departure point for the Nyiragongo volcano trek. The climb up the volcano takes around four to six hours, and trekkers will spend the night at the summit.

Transfer to Kigali

Virunga National Park - Mount Nyiragongo & Mountain Gorilla Treks - After an early breakfast at the summit, descend the mountains, reaching the bottom around 12 pm, depending on the group’s speed. Upon arrival at the base, proceed back to Kigali.

Flight to Dar es Salaam

Dar es Salaam Zoo - Upon arrival at Julius Nyerere International Airport, meet your dedicated Driver Guide and transfer to Dar es Salaam for dinner and an overnight stay at Best Western CBD Hotel.
