- Orkhon Waterfall - Day 1: Explore Orkhon Volcanic Valley and Waterfall (Ulaan Tsutgalan). Embark on an unforgettable journey through Mongolia’s volcanic past and nomadic traditions by visiting the Orkhon Valley and its renowned Waterfall (Ulaan Tsutgalan).
Overview:
- Location: Central Mongolia, part of a UNESCO World Heritage site.
- Waterfall Details: The Waterfall cascades 20 to 27 meters into a basalt canyon, created by volcanic eruptions 20,000 years ago.
- Travel Time: The drive from Ulaanbaatar is approximately 6 to 7 hours, covering around 450 km.
- Base Town: Kharkhorin (ancient Karakorum) serves as the main starting point, located about 120 km away, a 2-hour drive from Kharkhorin.
After lunch, visit a nomadic family in the Orkhon Valley and enjoy a horseback ride to the Waterfall (Ulaan Tsutgalan). Spend the night with a nomadic family, experiencing nature and the nomadic lifestyle. Note: There is no shower, but there is a comfortable traditional outdoor toilet.
- Kharkhorin - Day 2: Discover Kharkhorin (Karakorum), the ancient capital of the Mongol Empire, and visit Erdene Zuu Monastery, one of Mongolia’s oldest Buddhist sites. Delve into the history and culture of Mongolia at the Erdene Zuu Monastery. Visit the Kharkhorin museum and the ruins of the ancient city.
Stay overnight at a Ger/Yurt guesthouse. The Ger is a traditional shared space with 4-5 beds. The guesthouse offers modern amenities including a shower, toilet, electricity, and Wi-Fi. Note: The public toilet is located outside.
- Elsen Tasarkhai - Day 3: Experience the Elsen Tasarkhai Sand Dunes and Camel Riding in the Semi Gobi Desert. This part of the Mongolian countryside is a blend of arid desert and lush mountainous scenery.
After breakfast, continue to the Elsen Tasarkhai sand dunes, a unique area where desert, steppe, and mountain landscapes converge. Meet a local family who will share insights into their traditional nomadic lifestyle. Enjoy a camel riding adventure and stay overnight with a nomadic herder family in a traditional ger (yurt). Note: There is no shower, but there is a traditional outdoor toilet.
- Ulaanbaatar - Day 4: After breakfast, return to UB city.
