The park is famously referred to as the “Land of Lava, Springs, Man-eaters, and Magical Sunsets.” Its fame stems from the man-eating lions that claimed the lives of hundreds during the construction of the railway line and highway in the colonial era. Tsavo West National Park is Kenya’s second-largest national park, spanning 9,065 square kilometers. It is divided from Tsavo East National Park by the A109 highway, which links Nairobi to Mombasa. The park boasts over fifty million gallons of crystal-clear water emerging from beneath the arid lava rock. Unique attractions at the park include the Mzima Springs and the Shetani Lava Flows.
