Tsavo East is among Kenya’s oldest and largest national parks, spanning around 13,747 km². Established in 1948, it is part of the Tsavo Conservation Area, which also includes Tsavo West and Chyulu Hills National Parks. The park is characterized by expansive open plains, semi-arid acacia scrub, and the picturesque Galana River, which supports a rich variety of wildlife. It is home to large herds of red elephants, as well as lions, leopards, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and numerous bird species. Key attractions include the Yatta Plateau, Lugard Falls, Mudanda Rock, and Aruba Dam.
Ziwani Game Sanctuary
Located within Tsavo West National Park, near the Sante River, Ziwani offers stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro and a serene lake environment. The camp provides luxurious tented accommodations and excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing, including elephants, hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species.
