Depart from your Nairobi hotel at 6:30 am via private transport to arrive in Nanyuki by 10:00 am. Meet the guide, cook, and porters in Nanyuki, then leave at 10:30 am to drive to Sirimon Gate at 2,650m. Check in and begin the hike through the rainforest to Old Moses Camp at 3,300m. A picnic lunch will be provided along the way. If fortunate, you may spot wildlife such as buffalo, elephants, waterbucks, and other animals. The distance is 9 km and takes approximately 3 hours. Upon arrival at Old Moses Camp at 4:00 pm, a short 1-hour walk is available for acclimatization. Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.

Day 2: Old Moses (3,300m) to Shipton’s Camp (4,200m)

After breakfast, embark on a relatively easy hike through moorland vegetation, crossing the Ontulili River before turning right to contour through the moorland and crossing the Liki North River. Continue uphill to Mackinders Valley, offering panoramic views up the valleys. Walk through the scenic Sirimon and Mackinders valleys, arriving at Shipton’s Camp at 4,200m. Lunch is served en route. This is a relatively long day, with a distance of 16 km from Old Moses Camp to Shipton’s Camp, taking about 6 hours.
Shipton’s Camp is set in a surreal location below towering peaks and glaciers, with stunning views of the northern side of the mountain.

Day 3: Peak Circuit, Acclimatization Day / Shipton’s to Austrian Hut (4,790 meters (15,715 ft))

Breakfast is served at 8:00 am, followed by the start of the peak circuit at 9:00 am. From Shipton’s Camp, the trail leads to Kami Camp below the north face of Batian. Continuing southwest, the trail climbs to a ridge at 4,600 meters above sea level. Hike through the scree before reaching Hausberg Col at 4,590m. Descend into the upper Hausberg Valley and rest at the aptly named Oblong and Hausberg Tarns. Ascend to the crest of a ridge known as Arthur’s Seat, where the trail winds along a beautiful series of rock ledges. View Mackinders Teleki Lodge, Two Tarn, Nanyuki Tarn, and American Camp. Proceed to Austrian Camp, passing Point Peter, Daton, and other beautiful scenes. A picnic lunch will be served.
Dinner and overnight at the Austrian Hut, 4,790m.

The highlight of the trip! At 4:30 am, wake up for tea and biscuits. Begin the summit attempt at Point Lenana (altitude 4,985 meters), capturing photos with the African sunrise. If the weather is clear, views of Mt. Kilimanjaro’s Kibo and Mawenzi peaks are possible, especially at dawn, offering spectacular sights. Descend to Mintos Hut for a full breakfast. After breakfast, continue descending to Mt. Kenya Chogoria Bandas, passing Lake Ellis, Mugi Hills, Vivien Falls, and the Giant Billiards Table in the distance. Enjoy a picnic lunch at the roadhead, arriving at the Bandas in the early evening for a well-deserved hot shower, dinner, and overnight stay at the Chogoria Gate.

Day 5: Chogoria Bandas to Nairobi
Nairobi - Day 5: Chogoria Bandas to Nairobi
After breakfast, descend for a 10 km walk through the bamboo forest. You will be picked up by private transport to Chogoria. Later, from Chogoria, bid farewell to the porters and drive to Nairobi, passing through agricultural country to arrive in Nairobi by 3:00 pm.
Overnight at a hotel in Nairobi at your own cost, but arrangements can be made.
