Tsavo National Park West - Meal Plan: Lunch, Dinner
The safari adventure kicks off with a pick-up from your beach hotel or resort. The journey follows the picturesque Mombasa – Nairobi Highway, offering views of farmlands and the Kenyan countryside.
The trip includes several stops for stretching and refreshments. The scenery of Tsavo West is as captivating as its wildlife. Enjoy game drives across rolling hills and grassy savannahs, passing volcanic lava beds and lush oases. In addition to the big game, keep an eye out for smaller wonders like bushbaby, lesser kudu, and dik-dik.
After lunch, we’ll head to a special location in the park – the 90 sq. km rhino sanctuary. This protected area is home to over 80 endangered, nocturnal rhinos. With some luck, we might spot one of these magnificent yet elusive creatures.
The evening will be spent at your choice of safari lodge or tented camp.
TSAVO WEST – AMBOSELI (100 km – Approx. 2.5 hrs.)
Amboseli National Park - Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
An early start allows us to explore two national parks today!
One of Tsavo West’s highlights is Mzima Springs, a spring-fed oasis. “Mzima” means “life” in Swahili, and the waters here support a variety of life forms – hippos, crocodiles, exotic fish, and birds.
We’ll explore the shaded banks of the springs on foot, observing other wildlife like zebras and giraffes drawn to the area.
Our final game drive will take us to the park’s borders, followed by a short journey to Amboseli Park to the south.
As you travel, you might spot the majestic form of Mt. Kilimanjaro on the horizon. This tallest peak in Africa provides a stunning backdrop to Amboseli, framing the reserve’s wildlife. Be sure to have your camera ready.
We’ll enjoy a leisurely afternoon observing the wildlife. The park’s compact size and sparse vegetation make it easier to spot animals.
AMBOSELI – TSAVO EAST NATIONAL PARK (260 km – Approx. 4hrs)
Tsavo National Park East - We’ll rise at dawn for a pre-breakfast game drive, hoping for a clear view of Kilimanjaro’s snow-capped summit.
A hearty safari breakfast will prepare us for the day ahead. On our final game drive as we leave the park, we’ll be on the lookout for lions, cheetahs, and hyenas, and we’ll bid farewell to the elephants of Amboseli.
Returning to the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway, we head to Tsavo East National Park, Kenya’s largest.
In Tsavo, the rugged and sparse terrain enhances the game viewing experience. We’ll search for the big predators and grazers, especially the distinctive “red-dust” elephants. These giants enjoy rolling in the red oxide soil, giving themselves a rusty hue.
We’ll spend a relaxing afternoon tracking the park’s diverse species, including over 500 bird types.
After a busy day, as sunset approaches, we’ll freshen up for dinner and the evening ahead.
TSAVO EAST – MOMBASA (160 km – Approx. 2-3 hrs)
Tsavo East - Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch
We’ll rise early to make the most of our time at Tsavo. After witnessing the wildlife emerge into the morning light, we’ll return for breakfast.
During our stay at Tsavo East, we’ll visit renowned watering holes like Mudanda Rock and Aruba Dam, where a variety of wildlife gather for the life-giving waters. Expect to see a diverse array of species sharing this communal space.
But soon, it will be time to return to Mombasa and the Kenyan coast.
