The Masai Mara National Reserve is Kenya’s most renowned wildlife destination. Located approximately 260 km southwest of Nairobi, the park spans 1,812 square kilometers. The name ‘Mara’ means spotted, and the reserve features vast savannah grasslands, winding rivers, swamps, forests, and impressive escarpments. It offers a rewarding wildlife experience year-round, with the highlight being the annual wildebeest migration from July to October. During this period, over a million wildebeest, 200,000 common zebras, and 300,000 gazelles migrate from the Serengeti in Northern Tanzania to the Masai Mara in search of lush pastures. The most dramatic event is the crossing of the Mara River, where some animals drown or fall prey to hungry crocodiles.
