- Museum of Roses - The Museum of Roses, a unique institution of its kind, is situated in the Town of Roses – Kazanlak. The initial exhibition showcasing the Kazanlak rose was presented in 1967, and by 1969, it evolved into a globally unique rose museum. The museum’s current appearance dates back to 1984 and is housed in a new building within Rosarium Park, forming part of the Iskra Historical Museum in Kazanlak.
The Museum of Roses boasts an extensive collection of artifacts, photographs, and documents that illustrate the history of Bulgarian oleaginous rose cultivation. These exhibits are displayed across three halls. Visitors can explore tools used for cultivating rose gardens, as well as containers for storing and exporting rose oil and rose water. Additionally, there is a replica of a rose-oil depot and the first rose-oil examination laboratory, established in 1907. Hristo Yaramov, a chemistry teacher at the Kazanlak school, founded the laboratory to analyze rose oil and issue certificates verifying the purity of oil intended for export. During that period, Bulgarian rose-growing faced challenges due to the emergence of ‘tereshe,’ or fake rose oil. Hristo Yaramov’s laboratory successfully countered this issue, preserving the esteemed reputation of Bulgarian rose oil as the world’s finest. A notable exhibit in the museum is a rose-oil container last used in 1947, which still emits the fragrance of roses.
