Singing Barkhan - Situated in Altyn-Emel National Park, the Singing Dune is a remarkable natural phenomenon. This area is known as the Singing Dunes due to the resonant sound produced by the sand. A gentle breeze creates a faint squeak, while stronger winds generate a more powerful sound, akin to an organ. During the Middle Ages, those who heard the dune’s song believed it was the wailing of a devil.
Aktau Mountains - The Aktau Mountains, composed of limestone, serve as an open-air geological museum. They are among the most fascinating and visually stunning attractions in the Altyn-Emel State National Natural Park. In Kazakh, “Aktau” translates to “White Mountains.” From a distance, the mountains appear white. Within the mountain canyons, one can discover exposed multi-colored dome rocks, towers made of layered colors, and dry canyons filled with calcite crystals. The landscapes are ever-changing, featuring bastions, towers, small towns, inaccessible castles, and canyons that seem endless.
Charyn Canyon - Kaindy Lake - Saty Village
Charyn Canyon - Charyn Canyon is part of the Charyn National Park, established to protect natural and geological features. The park is home to numerous rare and endangered animal species listed in the Red Book. Charyn Canyon is a breathtaking natural site, renowned for its otherworldly landscapes. The canyon’s depth is 200 meters, with the sheer cliffs reaching heights of 150-300 meters.
Lake Kaindy - Lake Kaindy is a truly astonishing natural creation. Nestled within a vast coniferous forest, it sits at an altitude of over 2000 meters above sea level. The lake was formed by a landslide of a massive limestone accumulation and soil subsidence.
Lower Kolsay Lake - Almaty City
Kolsai Lake - The Kolsay Lakes are a favored tourist spot. The term “kolsay” means “lake in the gorge,” and there are three: Upper, Middle, and Lower. All are quite deep, cool, and picturesque. The lower lake is situated at 1818 meters above sea level and has a depth of 80 meters. It is accessible by road and offers guesthouses, campsites, boating, and horse riding.
