Cendere Bridge - To the left of the modern bridge over the Cendere River, admire a stunning humpback Roman bridge constructed in the 2nd century AD. The remaining Latin stelae indicate that the bridge was built to honor Emperor Septimius Severus. Of the original four Corinthian columns (two at each end), three remain standing.
Karakus Tumulusu - Constructed in 36 BC, Karakuş Tümülüs is encircled by a few columns – more existed, but the Romans used the limestone blocks to build the Cendere Bridge. An eagle crowns a column at the parking area, a lion tops another around the mound, and a third features an inscribed slab explaining that the burial mound contains female relatives of King Mithridates II.
Mount Nemrut - In 62 BC, King Antiochus I Theos of Commagene established a tomb-sanctuary on the mountain peak, flanked by enormous statues (8–9 m or 26–30 ft high) of himself, two lions, two eagles, and various Greek, Armenian, and Iranian deities, such as Hercules-Vahagn, Zeus-Aramazd or Oromasdes (linked with the Iranian god Ahura Mazda), Tyche, and Apollo-Mithras. These statues were originally seated, with each god’s name inscribed on them. The heads of the statues have been removed from their bodies and are now scattered across the site.
Adiyaman - Return to Adiyaman for an overnight stay in a hotel.
Gobekli Tepe - Harran - Sanliurfa
Potbelly Hill - Gobekli Tepe, a hilltop sanctuary situated on the highest point of a mountain ridge 15 km northeast of the town of Urfa. Gobeklitepe is unique due to its construction date, approximately twelve thousand years ago, in 10,000 BC.
Harran - Visit nearby Harran to witness the remarkable beehive houses. According to the Bible, Harran is where the prophet Abraham spent several years with his family before moving to Israel, the Promised Land. This area offers exceptional photo opportunities.
Sanliurfa - Return to Sanliurfa for an overnight stay, where you can visit the Mevlid-i Halil Mosque, see the Prophet Abraham Cave, and the Pools of the Holy Carp surrounding it, then explore the oriental covered bazaar.
Gaziantep - Cappadocia
Zeugma Mosaic Museum - After breakfast and check-out, travel from Sanliurfa to Gaziantep to visit the renowned Mosaic Museum, the largest in the world and home to the famous ‘Gypsy Girl’ mosaic. This museum showcases exquisite mosaics discovered at the Roman site of Belkis - Zeugma before the Birecik Dam submerged most of the site.
