Legend has it that King Ravana kidnapped Princess Sita and hid her in a cave behind the waterfall.

Nine Arches Bridge - Positioned between Ella and Demodara railway stations, the nine-arch bridge is one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic structures. This 99-foot-high bridge is constructed entirely of solid rocks, bricks, and cement without any steel. Standing underneath and looking up reveals a beautiful sight of ‘nine skies’ through the arches, hence it is also known as the “Nine Skies Bridge” and “The Bridge in the Sky.” Visitors can walk along the rails and enjoy the surrounding beauty, and may even be lucky enough to see a train crossing the bridge.
