Airport – Dambulla

Bandaranaike International Airport - Upon arrival by flight, passengers will be directed to the arrival terminal. After completing immigration and visa procedures, collecting baggage, and passing through the green channel if there are no goods to declare, travelers will enter the arrival lounge. Here, a representative from Apple Vacations will be waiting with a paging board displaying the traveler’s name. This representative will introduce the traveler to an English-speaking chauffeur guide who will transport them to their hotel in Dambulla. (Pick-up available from Negombo or Colombo City)

Golden Temple of Dambulla - Known as Jumbukola Vihara in the Mahavamsa, the principal Pali Chronicle of Sri Lanka, the Rock Temple of Dambulla is located approximately 47 miles northwest of Kandy, the last capital of the Sinhalese kings, on the main road to Anuradhapura. Dambulla is a site of exceptional interest, featuring the most extensive and well-preserved rock temples on the island.

Dambulla Dedicated Economic Centre - Situated in the Dambulla Secretariat Division of Matale District, at the heart of Dambulla town, this center was established in 1999 as a wholesale market for vegetables and fruits. A key feature of the DDEC is the direct involvement of farmers in selling their produce.

Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium - The Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium, with a seating capacity of 30,000, is Sri Lanka’s only international cricket venue located in the dry zone. Positioned on land leased from the Rangiri Dambulla Temple, the stadium offers views of the Dambulla Tank (reservoir) and the Dambulla Rock.

Sigiriya Museum - This well-curated museum features a detailed diorama of the site, providing an excellent overview and explaining Sigiriya’s cultural significance beyond its natural beauty. While the theory that Sigiriya was a Buddhist monastery is presented, the prevailing view is that it was a palace or fortress. (Combine with Sigiriya fortress)

Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress - Rising majestically from the central plains, Sigiriya is arguably Sri Lanka’s most striking sight. Its near-vertical walls ascend to a flat-topped summit that holds the remnants of an ancient civilization, believed to be the heart of the short-lived kingdom of Kassapa. The early morning offers breathtaking views over mist-covered forests.

Sigiriya - Kandy

Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic - The Temple of the Sacred Tooth, with its golden roof, houses Sri Lanka’s most revered Buddhist relic, a tooth of the Buddha. During puja (offerings or prayers), the heavily guarded room containing the tooth is accessible to devotees and tourists. However, the tooth itself is not visible as it is kept in a gold casket shaped like a dagoba (stupa), which contains a series of six diminishing dagoba caskets. In addition to the main temple, the complex includes several smaller temples, shrines, and museums.

Kandy View Point - Climb the hill by Kandy Lake to reach the Kandy viewpoint, offering an unbeatable view of the city. As a popular tourist spot, the area attracts many vendors, though their items are often of low quality. The area is also known for pickpocketing, so visitors should remain vigilant. From the hill, enjoy stunning views over the lake and the city.

Kandy Lake - Also known as Kiri Muhuda or the Sea of Milk, Kandy Lake is an artificial lake in the heart of Kandy, Sri Lanka, constructed in 1807 by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe next to the Temple of the Tooth. Over time, its size has been reduced. It is a protected lake, with fishing prohibited. Many legends and folklore surround the lake, including one that suggests the small island at its center was used by the king’s helm for bathing and was connected to the palace by a secret tunnel.

Kandy - Nuwaraeliya

Nuwara Eliya - Nuwara Eliya is a city nestled in the tea country hills of central Sri Lanka. The beautifully landscaped Hakgala Botanical Gardens showcase roses and tree ferns and are home to monkeys and blue magpies. Nearby, the Seetha Amman Temple, a vibrant Hindu temple, is adorned with religious figures.

Ramboda Waterfall - As rivers flow over uneven terrain or down mountains, they often split into tributaries or form waterfalls. Occasionally, two tributaries of the same river create twin waterfalls close to each other, forming a Y shape as they merge. This rare and stunning sight can be seen in the Pussellawa area of Nuwara Eliya, at the Ramboda Pass. The Ramboda Falls, also known as Ramboda Ella or Puna Ella, are formed by Puna Oya, a tributary of Kothmale Oya. They twin with Dunsinane Falls, created by Pundalu Oya, another tributary of the Kothmale River, and merge at the base to form a Y shape.

Gregory Lake - Gregory Lake was created in 1873 by the British-era Governor, Sir William Gregory, supposedly for electricity generation. However, the lake was primarily used for leisure and recreation. At its peak, Gregory Lake was the area’s most prominent attraction, serving as a relaxation spot for many visitors.

Sita Temple - The Sita Amman Temple, dedicated to Sita, the wife of Lord Rama, is located in the hills of Nuwara Eliya and is revered by Hindus as the only temple of its kind in the world. It is situated five kilometers along the road from Nuwara Eliya to Kandy. According to history, this is where King Ravana held Sita captive. The temple is notable for the footprints by the river, believed to resemble those of Hanuman.

Sri Baktha Hanuman Temple - It was Gurudev’s vision, during his visit to Sri Lanka in 1980, to establish a spiritual center at Rambodha. With Gurudev’s blessings, Chinmaya Mission Sri Lanka acquired 10 acres of land in 1981 at Wevanden Hills, naming it “Rambodha.” Located in central Sri Lanka, 3,200 ft above sea level and 150 km from Colombo (a 3.5-hour drive), it is believed that Sri Hanumanji set foot in these sacred hills while searching for Sitaji. Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayananda consecrated the temple on April 8, 2001, with a Maha Kumbhabhishekam ceremony. This magnificent temple now stands as a monument, featuring a 16 ft idol of Lord Hanuman as the Moola Murti, with Vinayakar, Dhyaneshwar, and Sri Rama with Mother Sita and Lakshmana as the parivara murtis.
