Anuradhapura / Mihintale / Aukana / Sigiriya
Mihintale - After breakfast, embark on a sightseeing tour of the ancient city of Anuradhapura, which dates back to the 4th century BC. It served as the capital of Sri Lanka until the early 11th century AD. This sacred city, revered by Buddhists worldwide, is surrounded by monasteries spanning over sixteen square miles (40 km²). Anuradhapura is rich in archaeological and historical sites, including Isurumuniya, the first temple built on the island, the Sri Maha Bodhi Tree with a history of over 2300 years, Ruwanveliseya, the largest stupa on the island, Jethawanaramaya, and Abhayagiriya, which were once comparable in size to the Great Pyramids of Giza and are now World Heritage Sites. Other notable sites include the Twin Ponds, Thuparamaya, the first stupa in Sri Lanka enshrining the Buddha’s left collar bone, and the Samadhi Statue in a meditative posture. Afterward, drive to Sigiriya, visiting Mihinthale and Avkana Temple along the way.

Aukana Rajamaha Viharaya - The Avukana statue is a standing Buddha statue near Kekirawa in North Central Sri Lanka. Standing over 40 feet (12 m) tall, it was carved from a large granite rock face in the 5th century. The statue features a variation of the Abhaya mudra, with an intricately carved robe. Constructed during King Dhatusena’s reign, it may have resulted from a competition between a master and a pupil. The Avukana statue is one of the finest examples of a standing statue from ancient Sri Lanka and is now a popular tourist attraction.

Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress - After breakfast, climb the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Sigiriya (Lion’s Rock) is an ancient rock fortress and palace built during King Kassapa I’s reign (AD 477 – 495). It is contemporary with the paintings of the Ajanta and Ellora Caves in India, featuring highlights such as the Frescoes, Mirror Wall, and Lion’s Paw. It is one of Sri Lanka’s Seven World Heritage Sites.
Polonnaruwa - Travel to Polonnaruwa via Habarana and begin a sightseeing tour of the ancient city of Polonnaruwa (11th Century AD). Explore numerous archaeological and historical sites in the Sacred City, including the Great Statue, Quadrangle, Royal Palace, Gal Viharaya, Kumara and Lotus Ponds, Thiwanka Image House, and more. Also, visit one of the country’s largest water reservoirs, the Parakrama Samudraya, often compared to an ocean.

Golden Temple of Dambulla - After breakfast, travel to Kandy via Dambulla and Matale. First, visit the Dambulla Cave Temple, the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The rock towers 160 m above the surrounding plains, with over 80 documented caves in the area. Major attractions are spread across five caves, containing statues and paintings related to Lord Buddha and his life. There are 153 Buddha statues, three statues of Sri Lankan kings, and four statues of gods and goddesses.

It is located in the Pussellawa area, on the A5 highway at Ramboda Pass, formed by Panna Oya, a tributary of Kothmale Oya. The falls are at an altitude of 945 m (3,100 ft) above sea level.
