In 681, Maroko’s grandson relocated the temple to its current site, where it became the principal temple for the now-defunct Hosso sect. The temple’s primary deity is Yakushi, the healing Buddha, but its most famous feature is the Taima Mandala, a visual depiction of the Pure Land paradise.
