3 Days / 2 Nights Selous (Nyerere National Park) Safari – From and Back to Zanzibar

Selous Game Reserve, now officially recognized as Nyerere National Park, encompasses 5% of Tanzania’s land area—approximately 54,600 square kilometers—making it Africa’s largest wildlife reserve and Tanzania’s most extensive protected ecosystem. The park is home to significant populations of elephants, lions, buffaloes, wild dogs, crocodiles, hippos, and a remarkable variety of bird species along the renowned Rufiji River. Originally named after British explorer Frederick Selous, the reserve is now proudly known as Nyerere National Park.

This 3-day safari begins with a pickup from your hotel in Zanzibar, followed by a boat or flight to Dar es Salaam, and concludes with a seamless return to Zanzibar with a hotel drop-off.

Day 1: Zanzibar – Dar es Salaam – Selous (Nyerere National Park)

Guests will be collected from their hotel in Zanzibar and transferred to the ferry terminal for a boat to Dar es Salaam. Upon arrival in Dar es Salaam, a guide from Kihindo Tours and Safaris will meet you at the ferry terminal for a safari briefing.

You will then travel south to Selous Game Reserve, a journey of approximately 4–5 hours. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch and embark on an afternoon boat safari along the Rufiji River, where you can observe hippos, crocodiles, birds, and other wildlife gathering by the riverbanks.

Dinner and Overnight: Selous Mloka Safaris Lodge (Full Board)

Day 2: Full-Day Game Drive – Selous (Nyerere National Park)

After breakfast, depart for a full-day game drive with a packed lunch. Your guide will choose a picturesque picnic spot where you can relax and enjoy your lunch amidst the park’s natural beauty. After lunch, continue exploring the reserve until evening.

Dinner and Overnight: Selous Mloka Safaris Lodge (Full Board)

Day 3: Selous (Nyerere NP) – Dar es Salaam – Zanzibar

Start your day with a morning walking safari, lasting about 2.5 hours, guided by a professional ranger. After returning to the lodge, enjoy a shower and breakfast.

You will then drive back to Dar es Salaam with packed lunch boxes. Upon arrival, you will be dropped at the airport for your flight or at the ferry terminal for your boat back to Zanzibar (or Mafia Island). Once you arrive in Zanzibar, a hotel transfer will be provided, completing your safari adventure.
