Jeep Journey from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi
Rasuwa - On this day, the journey will take us to Syabrubesi, the gateway to the Langtang trek. The route passes through Langtang National Park. Along the way, travelers will enjoy views of charming Tamang villages, terrace farming, and small stupas/chhortens. Transitioning from the bustling city to a tranquil village offers a unique experience. Please anticipate some bumpy sections as parts of the road are under construction.
Hotel Garden Inn Shyfru Bensi - During the jeep ride from Machhakhola bus park to Syabrubesi, the journey leads through the picturesque hilly region of Rasuwa district. The landscape is dotted with lush green paddy fields and terraced fields growing various crops like rice, wheat, potatoes, and corn. Travelers will also see typical Nepalese villages built from rock and mud, with many households in rural areas keeping cattle such as cows and goats, along with domestic animals like chickens and ducks. Upon reaching the hotel in Syabrubesi, guests can relax and enjoy an authentic Nepalese dinner.
Hike from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel
Langtang National Park - On Day 2, the actual trek begins in the stunning Langtang National Park. The hike to Lama Hotel, the destination for an overnight stay in a teahouse, takes 6-7 hours.
Lama Hotel - The trail winds through lush green forests filled with alder, pine, oak, and bamboo trees alongside the pristine Langtang River. The area is home to a variety of birds, including fantails, sunbirds, nightingales, swifts, and pheasants. Crossing long suspension bridges multiple times over deep hills offers a unique experience.
Trek to Mundu
Langtang Valley - The trail continues to ascend through the forest, offering occasional glimpses of Mount Langtang Lirung in the distance. At Ghoda Tabela (3,000m / 9,842ft), the trail emerges from the forest, with mountains towering on either side of the valley. The trail climbs gently as the valley widens, passing temporary settlements used by herders who graze their livestock in the high pastures during summer. Travelers may spot their first yak if they haven’t already. The next section of the trail serves as a somber reminder of the 2015 earthquake. Where Langtang village once stood, with numerous lodges, there is now a vast rock field. Reflect on the Nepalis and tourists who lost their lives here, and remember that your visit supports the survivors. Mundu is just a half-hour walk further. The old houses here remind visitors of what all the villages once looked like in this valley.
Trek to Kyanjin Gumpa
Kyanjin Gompa - From Mundu, the trail gradually climbs through yak pastures as the valley opens up further, offering more extensive views. After crossing several small streams and moraines, the trail reaches the settlement at Kyangjin Gumpa. Here, a small monastery and a government-operated cheese factory provide a good place to stock up for lunch and afternoon snacks. Arriving by lunchtime allows time to relax in the afternoon or explore the area. For those feeling energetic, a hike up the valley towards Langshisha Kharka offers stunning views.
Kyanjin Gompa - Visitors can explore the beautiful Kyanjin Gompa village, with attractions such as the local Yak cheese factory, a Buddhist monastery, and a visit to lower Kyanjin Ri for an acclimatization hike.
Exploration Day at Kyanjin Ri and Rest Day
Kyanjin Ri - An early morning 2-hour hike offers a sunrise view over the Langtang range. The walk ascends slowly over 4,400m elevation along steep ridges. Despite the challenging uphill trek, the view from upper Kyanjin Ri is rewarding. The magnificent panoramic view of Langtang Lirung and many mountains on the Tibetan side is breathtaking. Glaciers are visible up close from Kyanjin Ri, and there is a chance to witness small glacier avalanches if lucky. While descending, travelers might encounter wildlife such as mountain goats (blue sheep and Himalayan Thar) and herds of yaks.
Trek Back to Lama Hotel from Kyanjin Gompa
Lama Hotel - The return journey follows the same route down the valley, tracing the Langtang River to Mundu village and on to Ghora Tabela. The descent is faster than the ascent. After lunch, the steep descent continues to Lama Hotel for an overnight stay. With luck, travelers might spot wild animals like red pandas, barking deer, musk deer, and langur monkeys along the forest trails.
Trek to Syabrubesi
Syabrubesi Hot Spring - Retrace the steps to Syabrubesi, enjoying the serene forested hills and riverside views. A visit to the hot spring in Syabrubesi is planned.
Return to Kathmandu from Syabrubesi
Kathmandu - On the final day of the trek, a private jeep will transport travelers from Syabrubesi to Kathmandu, following the same highway as at the start of the trek. A celebratory dinner in Thamel marks the successful completion of the Langtang trek.
