One of the most captivating ceremonies at Pashupatinath Temple is the Pashupati Bagmati Aarati.
Aarati is a worship ritual where light from wicks soaked in ghee (clarified butter) is offered to the deity. The Pashupati Bagmati Aarati involves three priests performing the ritual with oil lamps, lanterns, and other sacred items while chanting holy mantras.
The priests conduct the Aarati by moving oil lamps in a circular motion, dedicating their actions to the Divine. Devotees sing Bhajans (songs with religious themes) during the Aarati, creating a blissful atmosphere. The Aarati begins at 6 pm every evening. Monday is considered the most auspicious day to worship Lord Shiva, attracting a large number of followers. This ritual invites everyone to participate, fostering a sense of unity between the Divine and the devotees. The Aarati is characterized by prayers for the well-being of all living beings and gratitude to God for His benevolence.
