- Phedi Khola - Begin your Manaslu Circuit adventure early in the morning with a bus ride from Kathmandu to Maccha Khola. The journey starts on the Prithvi Highway, covering about 40km, crossing the Trishuli River, and reaching Dhading Bensi after a 3-hour drive from Kathmandu. From there, continue towards Arughat Bazar, historically known as the gateway to the Manaslu Circuit. The road from Dhading Besi to Arughat is off-road and presents some challenges.
From Arughat, travel through Arkhet Bazar, Kurenipani, Lapubesi, Khenibesi, and finally arrive at Machha Khola village, situated on the banks of the Budhi Gandaki River. After a 6-7 hour drive from Kathmandu, you’ll reach Maccha Khola at an elevation of 930m, offering views of Nepal’s diverse landscapes, from scenic hills to quaint towns. Upon arrival, enjoy the village’s natural beauty, a peaceful retreat from the city.
- Jagat - After enjoying the tranquility of Maccha Khola, embark on your trekking journey for the Manaslu Circuit. On the second day, your destination is Jagat, located at an elevation of 1410m. Departing from Maccha Khola, you’ll reach Khorla Besi, where you can rest at a tea house. Continuing from Khorla, you’ll arrive at Lisyapu and then Tatopani, renowned for its natural hot springs. At Tatopani, you can refresh with a shower, believed to cure various skin ailments.
Leaving Tatopani, proceed to Doban. From Doban, cross a suspension bridge at Yuru Khola. After traversing several suspension bridges and stone-paved trails, you’ll arrive at Jagat after 5 hours of trekking from Maccha Khola, including a lunch break. Before reaching Jagat, you’ll experience diverse landscapes, charming villages, and rocky terrain with breathtaking mountain views.
- Jagat - After a hearty breakfast at Jagat, continue your trek towards Dyang (1800m). Jagat is a small village, marking the start of a restricted area. You’ll need to check in at the Manaslu National Park’s restricted site. Trek through dense forests and along the Budhi Gandaki River, crossing suspension bridges, as you head towards your destination. The sound of the river will accompany you as you navigate the ups and downs.
From Jagat, trek to Salleri, then Paimo, and the picturesque village of Sirdibas. From Sirdibas, proceed to Nagjet, cross a suspension bridge, and reach Philim, Ekle Bhatti, and other charming towns. After crossing another suspension bridge, you’ll arrive at Nyak and finally reach Dyang. The journey from Jagat to Dyang is not only about trekking but also about cultural immersion with locals, taking approximately 5 hours.
- Namrung - Bid farewell to Dyang and continue your trek to Namrung, situated at an altitude of 2660m. Cross the suspension bridge from Dyang to reach Bihi, followed by Ranagoan. After Bihi, continue to Ghap, a village with Tibetan influences. As you trek further, you’ll cross the Budhi Gandaki River multiple times via suspension bridges. The trek ascends through rhododendron forests and picturesque villages, reaching Namrung in 6 hours from Dyang.
Upon reaching Namrung, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of the snow-capped Manaslu mountain and surrounding peaks. From Namrung, you’re close to the Manaslu Circuit, offering a sense of achievement.
- Samagaun - Departing from Namrung, continue your journey, cherishing memories of the village’s stone arch and monasteries. The trail leads through rhododendron and pine forests from Namrung. Passing through Liagoan and Syogoan, you’ll arrive at Lhogoan. Lhogoan is home to various monasteries where you can rest and learn more about the village and its residents.
Before reaching Samagaon from Lhogoan, enjoy the captivating views of Mount Manaslu and surrounding mountains. After crossing several suspension bridges from Lhogoan, you’ll reach Samagaon, located at an elevation of 3530m, after a 6-hour trek.
- Samagaun - As you approach the Manaslu Circuit, it’s essential to rest and acclimatize to the changing temperature. Therefore, on the seventh day, you’ll have an acclimatization day to minimize altitude-related sickness. On this day, relax and explore the beauty of Samagaon. During your exploration, visit Birendra Lake, situated at 3450m. If time permits, visit a monastery as well. Birendra Lake and the monasteries are alternative trails, so prioritize Birendra Lake first, and if time allows, visit the monasteries.
In addition to exploring Birendra Lake and the monasteries, spend time interacting with the friendly and kind locals of Samagaon. Use the acclimatization day wisely to learn more about the local culture and community.
- Samdo - After the acclimatization day, proceed towards Samdo. The trek from Samagaon to Samdo takes you through yak grazing meadows and barley fields. This beautiful journey offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The trail leads through juniper forests, providing insights into the unique flora and fauna.
On the way to Samdo, you’ll encounter the Mani wall adorned with prayer flags, showcasing the region’s cultural richness and religious beliefs. Upon reaching Samdo, you’ll be welcomed by the locals’ hospitality and the village’s beauty, surrounded by mountains. After a 4-hour trek from Samagaon, you’ll arrive at Samdo.
- Samdo - Dharmashala, also known as Larke Phedi, is your next destination after Samdo on the Manaslu Circuit trek. After breakfast at Samdo, head towards Dharmashala. Situated at an elevation of 4470m, Dharmashala is your last stop before tackling the challenging Larkya La pass. The trail from Samdo to Dharmashala gradually ascends through rocky terrain and alpine meadows.
Before reaching Dharmashala, pass through Larke Bazaar, a Tibetan market where Tibetan traders sell their goods. After a 4-hour trek from Samdo, you’ll arrive at Dharmashala, where you can relax in preparation for the upcoming challenging pass.
- Bhimtang Lake viewpoint - On the ninth day, embark on a challenging yet rewarding trek on the Manaslu Circuit. Departing from Dharmashala early in the morning, head towards the Larkya La pass. The trail from Dharmashala to Larkya La pass is rocky and may be icy, so proceed with caution. At an altitude of 5106m, the pass is considered challenging, but crossing it is manageable. Walk slowly, stay hydrated, and listen to your body’s signals for an enjoyable trek.
After conquering the pass, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views from the top of Larkya La Pass, including Mount Manaslu, Manaslu North, Shringi Himal, Himal Chuli West, Himal Chuli North, Annapurna, Nadi Chuli, Baudha Himal, and many unnamed peaks. Dudh Kunda is also visible from the top. After enjoying the views, you’ll reach Bhimtang (3720m).
- Bhimtang Lake viewpoint - Early in the morning, admire the sun’s rays on the mountains, including Lamjung Himal, Mt. Manaslu, Phungi, Himlung, and Cheo Himal, as you prepare to return from your journey. After breakfast in Bhimtang, head towards Tilche, carrying cherished memories from the trek. On the way to Tilche, pass through rhododendron and pine forests, reminiscing about your experiences. Passing through Hampouk, Puktu Kharka, Karche, and Gho, you’ll reach Tilche.
After a 6-hour descent from Bhimtang, you’ll arrive at Tilche, situated at an elevation of 2300m. Tilche is a charming village with traditional stone houses that add to its allure. In Tilche, gain a deeper understanding of the local way of life.
