Kathmandu Sightseeing and Kyajo Ri Peak Climbing Preparations
Kathmandu - Spend the day exploring some of the UNESCO World Heritage sites within the Kathmandu valley. Additionally, complete all necessary paperwork and preparations for the Kyajo Ri Peak Climbing. Note: Visiting all heritage sites in one day is not feasible, so select at least 3-4 places for your sightseeing tour.
Flight from Kathmandu to Lukla [2800m/9184ft] & Trek to Phakding [2640m/8659ft]
Phakding - After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the domestic airport for an early morning scenic flight to Lukla, the gateway to the Khumbu and Everest regions. Upon landing, begin the trek through charming Sherpa villages and lush rhododendron forests along the Dudh Koshi river. The trek continues through pine forests and past painted mani walls, leading to Phakding for an overnight stay.
Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar [3440m/11283ft]
Namche Bazaar - Start the trek from Phakding by crossing a long suspension bridge, then follow the trail through the village of Benkar and cross the Dudh Koshi river again. The trail ascends to Monjo village, continuing uphill through dense forests to the Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park entry post for registration. Descend over stone steps to another suspension bridge, then make a final climb to reach Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa Capital.
Rest Day at Namche Bazaar for Acclimatization
Namche Bazaar - At over 3000 meters above sea level, acclimatization is essential to prevent illness and ensure a successful Kyajo-Ri Peak summit. Spend the day exploring Namche Bazaar, a bustling market town with plenty to see and do. Consider hiking to Khunde Hospital, established by Sir Edmund Hillary, or take an hour’s hike to Syangboche for stunning views of Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Nuptse, Thamserku, Kusum Kanguru, and Ama Dablam.
Trek from Namche Bazaar to Mende [3736m/12255ft]
Trek from Mende to Kyajo Ri Base Camp [4550m/14925ft]
Kyajo Ri - Departing Mende, follow a faint Yak trail over several passes to enter Kyajo Drangka, an isolated broad valley south of Kyajo Ri. Enjoy views of Thamserku, Kusum Kangaru, Kwangde Peak, Parchamo Peak, and other snow-capped peaks. After a few hours of uphill trekking, arrive at the summer yak pasture ground to set up base camp. The Sherpa crew will prepare for higher altitude camps and check climbing gear.
Rest Day at Kyajo Ri Base Camp
Kyajo Ri - At over 4500 meters above sea level, take a rest day for acclimatization at the base camp to prevent altitude sickness. Enjoy views of surrounding peaks and valleys. Explore trails offering magnificent views of snow-capped mountains. Meanwhile, the Sherpa crew will check and prepare climbing gear for the Kyajo Ri Peak ascent.
Ascend from Kyajo Ri Base Camp to Camp I [5200m/17056ft]
Kyajo Ri - After a rest day at Base Camp, continue trekking to higher altitudes. Climb over grassy spurs and boulders, then follow a steep rocky trail to a suitable camping site at 5,200 meters, where Camp I will be established. Enjoy views of Kyajo Ri Peak and pristine glacial lakes. Camp here before ascending to higher altitudes.
Acclimatization and Rest at Camp I
Kyajo Ri - Another rest day for acclimatization is crucial for a successful summit climb and to prevent altitude sickness. Spend the day at Camp I, engaging in hikes that offer acclimatization and views of surrounding high peaks. The crew will check health conditions and climbing equipment for the Kyajo Ri Peak ascent.
Ascend from Camp I to Camp II [5700m/18,700ft]
Kyajo Ri - After acclimatizing at Camp I, proceed to higher altitudes. The climb involves technical sections over rocks and glaciers, requiring fixed ropes and crampons. After a few hours, reach a campsite near a large glacial lake at 5,700 meters. The Sherpa crew will set up camp and prepare for the final summit climb the next day.
Summit Kyajo Ri Peak [6186m/20290ft] and Return to Camp II
Kyajo Ri - Today marks the eagerly anticipated summit climb. Fully equipped and acclimatized, start early to reach the summit before noon, as strong winds can hinder progress. Follow the guidance of experienced climbing experts to navigate technical sections and reach the sharp summit of Kyajo Ri Peak. Enjoy breathtaking views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Baruntse, Ama Dablam, and other high peaks. Spend a brief time at the summit before descending to Camp II.
Descend Back to Base Camp
Kyajo Ri - After successfully summiting Kyajo Ri Peak, enjoy a leisurely breakfast before retracing steps from Camp II, descending past Camp I, and continuing downhill to the base camp for an overnight stay.
Trek from Base Camp to Namche Bazaar [3,450m/11316ft]
Namche Bazaar - Departing the base camp, retrace steps through Mende, leaving alpine vegetation for sub-tropical forests filled with rhododendron trees. An easy trek leads back to Namche Bazaar.
Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla [2,800m/9184ft]
Lukla - On the final day of the trek, leave Namche Bazaar for a pleasant walk through dense rhododendron forests, with a few short uphill climbs, then descend to the Bhote Koshi River, crossing it three times. A final uphill climb of about forty-five minutes brings you back to Lukla. Celebrate the successful completion of the Kyajo Ri Peak Climbing with the team.
Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu
Kathmandu - After breakfast, take an early morning scenic flight from Lukla back to Kathmandu. Upon landing, transfer to the hotel. Relax or visit UNESCO World Heritage sites not seen earlier in the trip. Explore the market streets of Thamel for a memorable experience. In the evening, enjoy a final meal together to celebrate the trip’s completion.
