• Kathmandu Durbar Square - Constructed in the 16th century, Kathmandu Durbar Square was once the royal palace of the Malla and Shan dynasties. To the south lies Basantapur Durbar Square, and to the north is Basantapur Durbar. The west is adorned with temples dedicated to various gods and goddesses. Visitors can explore notable sites such as the Kal Bhairav Temple, Taleju Temple, Kumari Bahal, Swet Bhairav Temple, Akash Bhairav Temple, and Shiv-Parvati Temple. • Swayambhunath Temple - Also known as the Monkey Temple, Swayambhunath Temple is located northwest of the Kathmandu valley. It offers a stunning panoramic view of the city. The term Swayambhu means self-existent, and the stupa features eyes on all sides, symbolizing faith and peace. The temple is home to numerous architectural shrines and monasteries. To the east, visitors will find a gold-plated Vajra, while the west hosts a Buddhist statue. • Boudhanath Stupa - The Boudhanath Stupa is the largest and most sacred stupa in Southeast Asia. It is a massive mandala adorned with symbols of enlightenment, incorporating the five elements of earth, water, space, fire, and air into its design. Upon entering through the gates, visitors are greeted by the Boudhanath Stupa, encircled by a 16-sided wall. Monks can often be seen praying around the stupa, and nearby monasteries, such as Shechen Monastery, add to the spiritual atmosphere. The area also features spacious cafes and restaurants, offering a peaceful setting with views of the Boudhanath Stupa. A popular activity is walking around the stupa in a clockwise direction while chanting “Om Mani Padme Hum.”
