Thamel - The Gosaikunda Trek kicks off with a scenic 7-hour drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, traveling along the renowned Prithvi Highway. The route takes you through picturesque villages, terraced fields, lush green hills, and occasional views of mountains like Ganesh Himal and the Annapurna Range before reaching Galchi and Trishuli Bazaar. After a few hours, you’ll arrive at Dhunche, the administrative center of Rasuwa District. Syabrubesi serves as the gateway to many trekking destinations in the Langtang region, offering various amenities such as hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, ATMs, and shops. Enjoy a stroll around the vibrant town of Syabrubesi to immerse yourself in the local culture.
Trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2,500 m/ 8,202 ft)
Lama Hotel - After an early breakfast, you’ll prepare your backpacks and begin your trek. You’ll cross a small suspension bridge over Ying Yang Khola, leaving the main road behind to follow a narrow trekking trail. The trail runs alongside Langtang Khola and features gradual switchbacks. Oak and rhododendron trees will line the path for most of the day.
Keep an eye on the trail as you might spot some exotic birds and langurs. You’ll pass through several small teahouse settlements such as Tiwari Gaon, Domen, Bamboo, and Rimche. The trail becomes relatively steep and challenging after Rimche until you finally reach Lama Hotel.
Trek to Langtang (3400 m / 11,155 ft)
Langtang Valley - The trail leads to Langtang village, a rocky hillside with cascading waterfalls and occasional glimpses of Langtang Lirung and Langtang Ri. You’ll follow the Langtang River uphill, passing the wide yak pasture land of Ghoda Tabela (Kyurpunesa), where you can admire the magnificent Langtang Range and surrounding landscapes. With captivating views of the Langtang range, you’ll pass a few villages and monasteries to arrive in the Tamang village of Langtang.
Langtang to Kyanjin Gompa (3860 m / 12664 ft)
Kyanjin Gompa - To reach one of the trek’s most significant landmarks, Kyanjin Gompa, you’ll leave Langtang behind. The area is rich in Buddhist culture.
As you progress along the trail, you’ll notice a gentle incline through the yak pastures. The valley opens up even more, offering splendid views that stretch out before you. On your way to Kyanjin Gompa, you’ll pass through a few villages, water mills, and chortens. For the locals, Kyanjin Gompa is a monastery of great importance. As you travel, you’ll encounter several prayer flags, wheels, and small dwellings.
Upon arrival, you’ll have plenty of time to relax in the afternoon or explore the surroundings. While there, you can visit the local yak cheese factory to sample or purchase some cheese.

Trek from Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel
Lama Hotel - Starting from Kyanjin, retrace the same path you took up the valley, following the Langtang Khola until you reach Mundu village and then proceed to Ghoda Tabela. The descent will be quicker than the ascent. After lunch, continue your descent to Lama Hotel.
Trek from Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru (2120 m / 6,955 ft)
Gosainkunda - Today, you’ll retrace your path back to Syabrubesi, leading to Thulo Syabru. Your adventure begins with a steep descent to Rimche, followed by a gradual path leading to Syabrubesi. The trail is surrounded by oak and rhododendron trees, offering splendid views of the Langtang Khola and exotic birds and animals. As you pass through villages, you’ll eventually arrive at the civilization of Syabrubesi. Before reaching the bazaar, you’ll cross a suspension bridge and connect to a motorway. Continue your journey to Thulo Syabru (Khedi), enjoying the serene forested hills.
Trek from Thulo Syabru to Sing Gompa (3,330 m / 10,660 ft)
Langtang Valley - Early in the morning, after breakfast, you’ll make your way to Sing Gompa, also known as Chandanbari. You’ll ascend a steep path through Dursangang, enjoying the splendid view of Langtang Lirung, Gaurishankar, and Ganesh Himal. Your journey to Sing Gompa is both thrilling and enjoyable, passing through oak and hemlock forests, rhododendron and pasture meadows, and climbing steep ridges. Later in the evening, you’ll visit the cheese factory, a main attraction in this area.
Trek to Gosaikunda (4360 m /14,370 ft)
Gosainkunda - It will take approximately 5-6 hours to reach the destination, Gosaikunda Lake. For Buddhist and Hindu pilgrims, Gosaikunda Lake holds unparalleled significance. The trail gradually ascends from the start. You’ll hike along a rugged and narrow trail all the way to Gosaikunda.
Before arriving at Cholang Pati and Lauribinayak, you’ll pass through several lakes. From Lauribinayak Hill, you can witness the Himalayas in an incredible panoramic view. After a brief stop, you’ll continue walking across rocky pathways and steep ridges to reach Gosaikunda. Hindu mythology suggests that the holy lakes of Gosaikunda were created by Lord Shiva’s Trishul to cool his throat after consuming poison from Samudra Manthan. It is believed that a holy bath in the lake brings you closer to God.

Gosainkunda - Take a break from trekking today to explore the monasteries, chortens, and cultural landmarks near Gosainkunda Lake. The lake offers a breathtaking view of Langtang Lirung (7234m), Hiunchuli (6441m), Ganesh Himal (7422m), and other mountains.

Thamel - After enjoying breakfast at the tea house in the early morning, you’ll drive back to Kathmandu, taking in the breathtaking scenery, including rural roads, picturesque villages, mountain peaks, and the immense beauty of the Trishuli River. After traveling for around six to seven hours, you’ll reach Kathmandu. After checking in, you have the rest of the day free to relax or explore the local markets and cuisine of Kathmandu.

Gosainkunda Trek is one of the popular treks in Nepal located 140km north of Kathmandu in Langtang region. It is a sacred holy lake believed to be created by Lord Shiva. This pristine lake is assumed to have magical healing powers so Hindus and Buddhists from all over Nepal come to visit the lake, mostly during the full moon night in the month of August.
