The inhabited place of Gokyo (4750m) is located at the edge of the third in a succession of small, azure mountain lakes. From the ridge of Gokyo, a climb to Gokyo Ri’s lofty viewpoint (Trek to Gokyo Peak) (5350m) presents a panorama of four peaks surpassing 8000m - Cho You, Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu. Opportunities for further discovery and high-altitude adventures abound, one of which includes crossing Cho La, a 5420m-high pass leading to Khumbu, or another climb to Gokyo Ri. For your return journey, deviate from the usual Gokyo route and pick another path back to Namche by conquering the Renjo La pass (5340m) rather than retracing your steps along the Gokyo valley routes. This alternative makes the trek considerably more thrilling and demanding, or proceeding to the Everest Base Camp just across Cho La pass can mark another milestone of accomplishments.
