Flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (40 mins)
Lukla - Everest Base Camp Trekking Route - The following day, you will embark on a flight to one of the world’s most thrilling airports – Lukla Airport in Solukhumbu. The flight offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayas, including the iconic Mt. Everest, standing majestically with its snow-covered peak. As the flight progresses, you will feel the presence of Mt. Everest growing stronger. Landing at Lukla airport is an unforgettable experience. The altitude will be noticeable as soon as you disembark.
In the afternoon, you can explore Lukla village, a popular destination in the Khumbu area and the starting point for all hiking trips in the Everest region.
Lukla to Manjo - Hiking duration: 4 to 5 hours
Lukla - On your next day in Lukla, you will begin the trek along the Dudh Koshi (Milky River), which stretches into the horizon. You will trek through a rhododendron forest, exuding a strong aroma of evergreen oak. The sight of snowy peaks signals that the trek will become more challenging, marking the start of an adventure that will test both mental and physical endurance. Along the way, you will witness snow-fed rivers, eventually arriving at Manjo after crossing a suspension bridge and passing several Buddhist Stupas. In the evening, you can explore Manjo village.
Manjo to Namche Bazaar - Hiking Duration: 5 to 6 Hours
Namche Bazaar - Your day begins with a trek towards Namche Bazaar. The trail starts off relatively easy but gradually becomes more challenging. You will catch your first glimpse of Everest while crossing the mighty Dudh Koshi. As you continue, the trail leads to Manjo, where you can stop for lunch. The next section of the trail is more difficult, becoming steeper and gaining altitude as you approach Namche, causing shortness of breath. It is advisable to progress slowly and steadily. You will spend the night at Namche Bazaar, a bustling hub where people from the Solukhumbu region gather for business. There are shops, restaurants, hotels, banks, and internet services, allowing you to stay connected with loved ones back home. Namche Bazaar offers fascinating insights into the local lifestyle.
Rest and Acclimatization Day at Namche Bazaar
Namche Bazaar - Today, you can use your time to acclimatize, relax, and explore the surrounding areas. Namche Bazaar is also known as the Sherpa Capital. Many trekkers prefer to rise before sunrise to witness the magnificent views of Mount Everest, Thamserku, Ama Dablam, and other stunning peaks from Sagarmatha National Park. You can observe the mountains’ shadows projected onto the clouds above, truly appreciating their grandeur. As a source of energy, try salt-butter tea and Champa – a type of barley commonly consumed by the Sherpa in the region. The lively cultural Saturday market is worth visiting, bustling with traders eager to sell their products.
Namche to Tengboche Monastery
Tengboche - On the sixth day of your Everest Base Camp trek, you will journey from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche. Although it will be one of the most challenging days in terms of elevation gain (around 4,000 feet/1,200 meters), it will also be the most rewarding, offering breathtaking views of the Everest Mountain Range.
Tengboche to Dingboche
Dingboche - You will proceed from Tengboche to Dingboche. It will be a stunning day as you traverse the valley with the glacier river below and snow-capped peaks in the distance. Along the trek, you will pass the village of Pangboche and the renowned mountain of Ama Dablam, making this a memorable day of your Nepal hiking adventure.
Dingboche to Lobuche (4910m)
Lobuche - Today, the trek continues along the trail to Everest Base Camp. The uphill trek from Thukla to Memorial Park is the most challenging part of the entire Everest Base Camp trekking trail. This route offers mesmerizing views of nature’s beauty. Along the way, you will encounter many prayer flags from brave mountaineers. Once you reach Lobuche (the second-highest village on the EBC trail), you can spend the night there.
Lobuche to Gorakshep
Gorak Shep - Due to the altitude, the trail to Gorakshep is sparse. Along the way, the trail is blanketed by snow. From this high vantage point, you will enjoy unbelievable panoramic views of Mt. Everest and its neighboring peaks.
Upon arriving at Gorakshep, you can rest, but if you feel energetic, you can visit Kala Patthar the same day for a stunning sunset view over the Himalayas.
Visit Kala Patthar and Everest Base Camp (5,400m) and Return to Lobuche
Lobuche - The next destination is Kala Patthar, standing at 5450m (Kala meaning black and Patthar meaning rock), followed by a visit to Everest Base Camp. You will be treated to nature at its finest, with incredible views of Mount Everest and the Khumbu Glacier Valley. After the challenging trek, you will return to Gorakshep for a meal and hopefully a warm sleep.
Lobuche to Namche
Namche Bazaar - The plan is to trek back to Namche Bazaar. The trail descends to the Dudh Kosi, where there are a series of water-driven prayer wheels. The trek continues back to Sagarmatha National Park through paths lined with Pine and Cedarwoods. Along the way, you will see the Lhotse-Nuptse Wall with Everest peeking from behind. Take a moment to appreciate the surreal view. After a few hours of trekking, you will reach Namche, where you will stay for the night.
Namche to Lukla via Phakding
Lukla - The trail descends and crosses the Dudh Kosi, where there are a series of water-driven prayer wheels. The trek continues back to Sagarmatha National Park through paths lined with Pine and Cedarwoods, ending in Chumoa village, a beautiful spot for lunch. Afterward, the trail runs along the riverside until Phakding. At this stage, breathing should not be difficult. As you trek onwards to Lukla, the disappearing sight of snowy peaks in the distance indicates that the most challenging part has passed, marking the end of an exciting and magnificent adventure that has pushed you to your limits. You will enter a rhododendron forest, exuding a strong aroma of evergreen oak, and trek along the Dudh Koshi (Milky River), which stretches into the horizon. After a few hours, you will reach Lukla, where you can relax and immerse yourself in the local culture.
