Conquering Kathmandu: A Thrilling Trek from Shivapuri to Baghdwar
Drawn by the allure of Kathmandu’s scenic foothills, I embarked on the Shivapuri to Baghdwar Trek, eager to experience the thrill of the Himalayas. Join me as I recount the adventure that unfolded.
Into the Heart of Kathmandu’s Wilderness
The sun had barely risen when my partner and I found ourselves at the base of Shivapuri Hill, ready to embark on the Shivapuri to Baghdwar Trek. The air was crisp, and the anticipation was palpable. As someone who thrives on adrenaline, the idea of trekking through the Kathmandu foothills was an irresistible call to adventure. The journey began with a drive to Budanilkhanta, where the entrance to the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park awaited us. The park, a lush expanse of greenery, promised a day filled with nature’s wonders.
As we started our ascent, the trail led us through a dense forest, the canopy above filtering the morning light into a mosaic of shadows and sunbeams. The path was alive with the sounds of chirping birds and rustling leaves, a symphony of the wild that set the perfect backdrop for our trek. The climb was steady, and with each step, the city of Kathmandu seemed to fade away, replaced by the serene embrace of nature.
A Spiritual Interlude at Nagi Gumba
By mid-morning, we reached Nagi Gumba, a Buddhist monastery perched on the hillside. The sight of the monastery, with its vibrant prayer flags fluttering in the breeze, was a welcome respite. We paused to take in the panoramic views of the valley below, a breathtaking vista that made the climb worthwhile. The monastery exuded a sense of peace, a spiritual oasis amidst the rugged terrain.
We spent some time exploring the monastery, soaking in the tranquility and the rich cultural heritage it represented. The monks, with their serene demeanor, added to the mystical aura of the place. It was a moment of reflection, a chance to catch our breath and appreciate the beauty of the journey so far.
Conquering Shivapuri Peak
With renewed energy, we continued our trek towards Baghdwar, the origin of the Bagmati River. The trail became steeper, challenging our endurance and resolve. But as an athlete, the thrill of pushing my limits was invigorating. The final stretch to Shivapuri Peak was a test of will, but the reward was a panoramic view of the Ganesh Himal, Jugal Himal, and Manaslu Range that took our breath away.
Standing at 2732 meters, the peak offered a vantage point like no other. The mountains, majestic and timeless, stood as silent sentinels, their snow-capped peaks glistening in the afternoon sun. It was a moment of triumph, a reminder of why I chose this path of adventure and exploration.
As we began our descent, the sense of accomplishment was overwhelming. The trek had been a journey of discovery, not just of the stunning landscapes but of our own capabilities. The Shivapuri to Baghdwar Trek had delivered an experience that was both exhilarating and humbling, a testament to the beauty and challenge of the Kathmandu foothills.
