Trek to Nagarkot
Nagarkot - In the morning, the northern mountain views captivate visitors. The trek begins towards Chauki Bhanjag, taking approximately 2.5 hours. The delightful trails continue towards Nagarkot. At 2175m, Nagarkot is a highly popular destination. In clear weather, the Himalayan range, stretching from Dhaulagiri in the west to Kanchenjunga in the east, including Everest, reveals its breathtaking majesty and beauty. Visitors enjoy the sunset over the mountains from the Nagarkot hill station. Nagarkot is favored by the urban residents of Kathmandu as a nearby weekend getaway, offering magnificent panoramic views of numerous Himalayan ranges, including the 8,848-meter-high Mt. Everest. An early bedtime is recommended to catch the mountain sunrise the following day.
Trek to Changu (3 hours) and drive back to Kathmandu
Changu Narayan - An early rise allows for witnessing the sunrise over the eastern Himalayan ranges, including Mt. Everest. After breakfast, the hike to Changunarayan begins, passing through terraced fields and traditional Tamang villages with ocher-colored houses. It’s fascinating to see how these villages, so close to Kathmandu, maintain a traditional lifestyle akin to remote areas. The initial part of the hike offers insights into the culture and lifestyle of the native people along the trail. There may even be an opportunity to observe locals making “Raksi,” a local wine, through a simple distillation process. The latter part of the hike is more nature-focused, traversing deciduous forests and offering close views of flora and fauna. The highlight is the panorama of distant snow-capped mountains set against this natural backdrop. The journey concludes at Changunarayan, the oldest pagoda-style temple in Kathmandu and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The temple is renowned for its exquisite stone sculptures. After exploring the temple area, the trip concludes with a drive back to Kathmandu.
