Fly to Lukla and trek to Phakding (2610m)
Lukla - Embark on an exhilarating flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2800m), offering stunning views of the landscape and snow-capped mountains. Begin the trek to Phakding, a pleasant 3-hour walk passing vibrant Tibetan Buddhist prayer walls, monasteries, and monuments. Enjoy a tea or lunch break en route to Phakding, a charming Sherpa village at 2610m. Upon arrival, check into your room and spend the afternoon relaxing and beginning the acclimatization process. Staying hydrated is crucial, so drink 4 to 5 liters of water daily throughout the trek. The distance to Phakding is 9km (5.6 miles). Overnight stay in a lodge.
Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440m)
Namche Bazaar - After a hearty breakfast, start the trek to Namche via Toktok, Benkar, Monjo, and Jorsalle. Cross some famous suspension bridges in the first few hours, gradually ascending towards the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park, the official gateway to the Everest Region. Descend briefly before the trail levels out on mixed terrain, following the river to the final high suspension bridge. Begin the long ‘Namche Hill’ ascent, which can take 2 hours, to reach the Sherpa village of Namche Bazaar. The itinerary includes a 2-night stay in Namche Bazaar at (3,340m / 11,286ft). Today’s trek typically lasts 5-6 hours with ample breaks and rest. Be mindful of your surroundings and avoid exposed parts of the trail. The distance from Phakding to Namche is 14 km/ 5 miles. Overnight stay in a lodge.
Acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar
Khumjung - Rest is essential, so an ‘acclimatization day’ is scheduled to help the body adjust and prevent AMS further along the trail. This doesn’t mean stopping all activity; it’s recommended to hike to higher elevations and sleep at lower ones. Hike to Everest View Hotel for panoramic mountain views, visit the twin Sherpa villages of Khumjung and Khunde, explore the Sherpa museum, or relax at Namche Bazaar. The area offers numerous hotels, lodges, restaurants, bars, cyber cafes, boutiques, souvenir shops, and groceries. Overnight stay in a lodge.
Trek to Tengboche (3870m)
Tengboche - Today’s hike leads to Tengboche at 3870m. The morning trek begins with a 20-minute ascent, followed by a pleasant trail to Kyanjuma, taking about 1.5 hours. The trail then descends to the Dudh Kosi River, crossing a suspension bridge at Phungitenga. Witness a series of picturesque water-driven prayer wheels. Lunch is at Phungi Thangna. From there, a 2 to 3-hour hike up a long hill leads to Tengboche. This gradual ascent takes 5-6 hours in total. The distance is 12km/ 7.5 miles. Explore the region’s most active Buddhist Monastery at 4 PM and visit the sacred land exhibition center. The mountain views are spectacular in the morning and evening. Overnight stay in a lodge.
Trek to Dingboche (4410m)
Dingboche - The trail continues through rhododendron, birch, and blue pine forests to the suspension bridge near Pangboche village, taking about 2 hours. After crossing the bridge, climb a gently steep trail to Pangboche village. Lunch is at Somare. Post-lunch, the trail continues through isolated pastures and fields to Orsho. The left trail leads to Pheriche, while the right trail continues to Dingboche. Follow the upstream of Imja Khola to reach Dingboche in about 2 hours. Enjoy views of Amadablam, Island Peak, Lhotse, Tawache, Tsolache, Lobuche, and other peaks. Overnight stay in a lodge.
Another rest and acclimatization day in Dingboche
Dingboche - Spend another night in Dingboche to further acclimatize. Aim to reach (4,900m/ 16,076ft), gaining 500m/1,640ft, in this acclimatization trek, which should take about 3 hours. Enjoy the views and rest for 30-45 minutes at the high point before descending for lunch and an afternoon of relaxation. The trek covers 3km/ 1.86 miles with 500m/ 1,640 feet of ascent and descent. Optionally, hike Nangkar Tshang (5616m) for a physically demanding but rewarding view of Mount Makalu and surrounding peaks. Overnight stay in a lodge.
Trek to Lobuche (4910m)
Lobuche - A short climb leads to the ridge above Dingboche, passing the small Chhorten trail through an easy grassy moraine above the Khumbu Khola valley to Thukla. Catch glimpses of majestic peaks like Pumori, Nuptse, Lobuche, Cholatse, Tawache, Amadablam, and others. The trail ascends steeply from Thukla to the ridge top, where cairn memorials and prayer flags honor mountaineers who perished on Everest missions. Continue to Lobuche, taking about an hour. Today’s trek lasts 5-6 hours, covering 12km/ 7.5 miles. Overnight stay in a lodge.
Trek to Gorakshep (5160m)
Gorak Shep - After a hot breakfast, continue the trek along the left bank of the Khumbu glacier, with a steep climb to Changri glacier, followed by a short descent to Gorak Shep, taking about 2.5 hours. Enjoy a lunch break, book a room, and drop off belongings before hiking to Everest Base Camp. Today is challenging for many. Alternatively, hike Kala Patthar (5545m) for a sunset view of Everest, postponing the base camp visit to the next day. The trek covers 10km/ 6.2 miles. Overnight stay in a lodge.
Hike Up to Kala Patthar (5545m) and trek to Pheriche
Pheriche - Early morning hike to Kala Patthar (5550m), meaning black stone. Ascend 400m to the Kala Patthar viewpoint from the hotel, taking a maximum of 2 hours. Enjoy a 360-degree view of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Khumbutse, Pumori, Lingtren, Amadablam, Thamserku, Lobuche peak, and other peaks. Witness unobstructed sunrise and sunset views. Descend to the hotel for breakfast, then continue the trek to Pheriche via Lobuche and Thukla. The trail gently descends to Pheriche. Overnight stay in a lodge.
Trek to Namche (3870m)
Namche Bazaar - Trek from Pheriche back to Namche Bazaar. This long day takes approximately 8 to 9 hours. Descend to lower altitudes, covering ground faster than on the ascent. Upon returning to Namche, enjoy treats at the Namche Bakery or play pool at Cafe Danfe before resting for the long walk back to Lukla. The trek covers 22km/ 13.7 miles.
Trek to Lukla (2800m)
Lukla - Another long day, potentially one of the hardest as the body is tired from the trek. Begin by descending Namche Hill, then continue the long stretch back to Lukla. Pass Phakding before starting the final uphill section into Lukla for one more night’s stay. Today’s trek takes 7 to 8 hours, covering 21km/ 13 miles. Overnight stay in a lodge.
Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu
Kathmandu - After a hot breakfast in Lukla, fly back to Kathmandu around 8:30 am. Enjoy a scenic 35-minute flight. Return to the hostel, take a hot shower, send clothes for laundry, savor delicious meals at the café, and do some last-minute shopping for loved ones.
