- Shiraito Falls - Situated on the border of Nagano and Gunma prefectures along the Shiraito Expressway, Shiraito Falls is a renowned tourist spot in Karuizawa, Nagano. This stunning, pristine waterfall is a must-visit. It stands 3 meters tall and spans 70 meters wide, created by groundwater flowing from the rock surface. The water cascades as delicately as silk, resembling “white silk,” which inspired the name “Shiraito Falls.” A flat path connects the parking area to the waterfall, offering convenience and adding to its appeal. The gentle stream, chirping birds, and the symphony of nature envelop visitors. As you stroll leisurely, the sound of the waterfall suddenly intertwines. Though the waterfall is as fine as a thread, it creates a breathtaking atmospheric scene. In summer, a month-long projection lighting event is held.
- Karuizawa Church - Established in the 10th year of Taisho, the “Karuizawa Kogen Church” emerged in Karuizawa, a city rich in Christian culture, as the venue for the “Art Free Education Seminar.” This seminar is a place for the pursuit of a truly enriched soul, fostering conversations among attendees, making it a favored spot for cultural enthusiasts. Since 1965, wedding ceremonies have been held here, and it is renowned as a church where non-Christians can wear wedding dresses. The church’s inclusive attitude, welcoming people of all beliefs, transforms it into a place of truly enriched souls. One of its charms is the ability to enjoy beautiful scenery and lighting throughout the year.
- Stone Church - The Karuizawa Stone Church “Uchimura Kenzo Memorial Hall” is a notable structure inspired by Japanese Christian thinker Uchimura Kenzo. It features a chapel on the ground floor and the Uchimura Kenzo Memorial Hall below. Designed by American architect Kendrick Kellogg, it boasts a distinctive design of overlapping stone brick and glass arches. Kellogg is renowned for his “organic architecture,” which uses natural materials without artificial processing. This unique design in Karuizawa’s beautiful natural setting has received high praise. The phrase “The place where you pray is the church” reflects Uchimura Kanzo’s ecclesiastical philosophy, so this church lacks a cross. Uchimura’s concept is to experience the pure self surrounded by nature and freedom. The church buildings are themed with natural elements, offering a spiritual and solemn experience.
- Harunire Terrace - Harunire Terrace embodies the concept of daily life in Karuizawa, located along the Yukawa River in eastern Nagano Prefecture. It hosts a variety of unique shops and restaurants. Utilizing over 100 native spring elms, the buildings are connected by wooden pallets, creating a “small street.” Visitors can enjoy shopping and dining in Karuizawa’s pleasant climate, a renowned resort. During the rainy season, the “Umbrella Sky” display features vibrant umbrellas overhead. At “Picchio” in the same area as Elm Street Town, visitors can engage in natural ecology observation and watch white-cheeked flying squirrels in flight. Additionally, “Kera Pond” in front of Picchio becomes an ice skating rink in winter, providing fun for both adults and children.
- Kumoba Pond - Kumoba Pond is a narrow artificial lake in Karuizawa Town, Nagano Prefecture, Japan, and is one of Karuizawa’s three major scenic spots. In the past, swans visited every winter, earning it the nickname “Swan Lake” from foreign tourists. A flat walking path encircles the pond, taking about 20 to 25 minutes to complete. Visitors can leisurely enjoy the picturesque scenery of the four seasons reflected on the lake. The surroundings are serene and elegant, and when the wind is still, the lake’s surface mirrors the sky, creating a moment of mysterious beauty.
- Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza - Located in Karuizawa, one of Japan’s most famous summer resorts, the Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza features around 240 unique stores, offering both renowned international brands and local Karuizawa specialties. This expansive outlet mall provides a delightful shopping experience, enhanced by the natural scenery and holiday atmosphere. The luxurious shopping environment makes shopping a pleasure, a hallmark of this outlet mall. Additionally, nearby attractions include Karuizawa’s hot springs and ski resorts, along with the Karuizawa Prince Hotel and various accommodations, making it an excellent choice for sightseeing and shopping.
