Discovered in 1951 by speleontologist Giannis Petrochilos, the underground Melissani lake is a breathtaking sight, especially where part of the roof has collapsed. In ancient times, the lake was a sacred site dedicated to Pan and the Nymph Melissani. Visitors can access the lake via an underground tunnel and explore it by boat with a guide, marveling at the natural sculptures formed by stalactites and the crystal-clear blue-green waters.
