- Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic - The Temple of the Sacred Tooth, with its golden roof, is home to Sri Lanka’s most significant Buddhist relic—a tooth of the Buddha. During puja (offerings or prayers), the room where the tooth is kept is open to devotees and tourists, although the tooth itself is not visible. It is stored in a gold casket shaped like a dagoba (stupa), which contains a series of six progressively smaller dagoba caskets. In addition to the main revered temple, the complex features several smaller temples, shrines, and museums.
- Kandy View Point - Ascend the hill by Kandy Lake to reach the Kandy viewpoint and enjoy an unparalleled view of the city. This popular tourist destination attracts many vendors, though their goods are often of lesser quality. The area is also known for pickpocketing, so be vigilant with your belongings. From the hill, you can take in stunning views of the lake and the entire city.
- Kandy Lake - Kandy Lake, also known as Kiri Muhuda or the Sea of Milk, is an artificial lake located in the heart of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It was constructed in 1807 by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe next to the Temple of the Tooth. Over time, its size has been reduced. The lake is protected, and fishing is prohibited. Numerous legends and folklore surround the lake, including one that suggests the small island at its center was used by the king’s harem for bathing and was connected to the palace by a secret tunnel.
- Pallekele International Cricket Stadium - Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, also known as Muttiah Muralitharan International Cricket Stadium, is located in Kandy, Sri Lanka. In July 2010, the Central Provincial Council in Kandy announced plans to rename the stadium in honor of the legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan, although this has not been officially done yet. The stadium opened on 27 November 2009 and became the 104th Test venue in the world in December 2010.
- Royal Botanical Gardens - These magnificent gardens were once exclusively for Kandyan royalty. Today, they are open to the public, offering the most impressive and largest (60 hectares) botanical gardens in Sri Lanka. Highlights include a superb collection of orchids, a grand avenue of royal palms, the extraordinary cannonball fruit tree, and 40m-high Burma bamboo. Another major attraction is the giant Javan fig tree on the great lawn, with its massive central trunk and umbrella-like canopy of branches. Peradeniya is located 6km from central Kandy.
- Colombo - Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, has a rich history as a port on ancient east-west trade routes, governed successively by the Portuguese, Dutch, and British. This heritage is reflected in its architecture, which blends colonial buildings with skyscrapers and shopping malls. The impressive Colombo National Museum, dedicated to Sri Lankan history, borders the expansive Viharamahadevi Park and its giant Buddha.
- Kandy - Kandy is a large city in central Sri Lanka, situated on a plateau surrounded by mountains that are home to tea plantations and biodiverse rainforests.
