Perfect ❤️ - If I could give 10 stars i would. I have been coming to Sri Lanka for twenty years and this was a top experience in all that time. The location is incredible, away from the noise of the busy city, over the river and through the paddy fields into a precious village. The class itself was so informative and taught with love and care. Amazing to see the traditional oven and be taught such a variety of dishes. Highly recommend to EVERYONE

Definitely visit the market prior to the class - We started our cooking school with a tour around the market to pick vegetables, it was interesting to learn about the unusual veg to us and see locals at the market. We made lots of different dishes at the cooking school with a personal favourite being the aubergines. The host was friendly and spoke perfect English and shared the recipes following the class. I would recommend her 😊

Shyama has great culinary knowledge and we (including our 8Y son) had lots of fun. During the cooking class, the hosts created a wonderful atmosphere and made us feel very well taken care of. We also recommend visiting the local market as a part of this experience.

A Fantastic Hands-On Cooking Experience in Kandy - I had a wonderful time at Kandy Cooking Village and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. The experience started with a trip to the local market, where we picked out fresh vegetables for the dishes we would later cook — such a great way to learn about local ingredients and culture. The outdoor kitchen was lovely, spacious, and very clean, which made cooking there a real pleasure. It was especially fun working together with the rest of the group, sharing laughs and learning new techniques along the way. We prepared a wide variety of dishes, including aubergine curry, chicken curry, and egg curry, among others. Everything tasted absolutely delicious, and the best part was sitting down together afterwards to enjoy the meal we had all made. As a lovely bonus, we were sent home with all the recipes, so I can now try to recreate these amazing flavours at home. A memorable, authentic, and very enjoyable experience from start to finish.

Amazing cooking class - Our time at the Kandy Village Cooking Class was truly one of the highlights of our trip to Sri Lanka! From start to finish, the experience was warm, welcoming, and incredibly well organized. We learned to prepare traditional Sri Lankan dishes that we had never even heard of before — like a rich curry made with fresh coconut and banana flowers, which turned out absolutely delicious! Our instructor was patient, knowledgeable, and made the process fun and engaging, even for complete beginners. The visit to the local market beforehand was equally delightful. Although smaller than some wet markets we’ve seen elsewhere in Asia, it was wonderfully authentic and stocked with a stunning variety of fresh produce, spices, and local specialties. I even found some amazing local cinnamon, pepper, and Sri Lankan dark cocoa powder to bring home — a real treat! The class struck the perfect balance between cultural insight and hands-on cooking. We felt welcomed like family, and it was clear that this experience was thoughtfully put together with a genuine passion for Sri Lankan cuisine. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Kandy — whether you’re a foodie, a travel enthusiast, or simply looking to learn something truly local and memorable. We would do it again in a heartbeat!

An unforgettable Sri Lankan cooking experience in a beautiful village home - This cooking class with Shyama was one of the highlights of my time in Sri Lanka. From the moment I arrived at her beautiful traditional home, surrounded by nature and complete village calm, I felt truly welcomed. The experience started with going together to select fresh ingredients, vegetables, and fruits, which made me feel deeply connected to the food and local life. Cooking in her traditional kitchen was amazing , simple, authentic, and full of stories. By the end of the day, I felt I didn’t just learn recipes, but truly understood Sri Lankan food culture. Shyama’s hospitality was exceptional. She is warm, generous, and passionate about sharing her knowledge. The atmosphere was peaceful, natural, and very personal, not touristy at all. If you want a real cultural experience, learn about Sri Lankan cuisine from the heart, and spend time in a quiet village setting, I highly recommend this cooking class. It’s more than cooking, it’s a cultural journey.

Spice up your holiday - This class is to date the best experience we have had in Sri Lanka. It’s a hands on class where you learn to cook a sumptuous feast and then eat it. Shyama was patient and clear in her demonstrations from roasting curry powder to making coconut milk. My dahls will never be the same again after what I learnt. I can’t wait to get home and try out all these recipes. A great thing to do to escape the hustle of Kandy. Highly recommended. Andy & Sue

An A Class Cooking Experience - What a fabulous experience! Highly recommend.!!! My husband and I had such a great time.. Shyarma and her husband were such great hosts. We first visited The Kandy centre city daily Market, it was buzzing, full of activity. We got to pick a curry we might like to make. We asked for the jack fruit curry. We learned a lot about the different vegetables spices curries and how to use them. Amazing place. Then we are transported to where Shyama hosts the cooking class at her home in a wonderful outdoor kitchen area. It’s perfect. We made 8 delicious dishes in all. Shyama, explained step by step instructing all of us to participate get involved and create. All were delicious. Finishing off with a coconut pancake. Yum! Such a highlight and a must do.! Thank you Shyama. Wonder experience.!

We would do it again! - I really enjoyed the cooking class! We started out at the Kandy market were the instructor gave us a tour and asked us what kind of vegetables we want to use later for cooking. She is very knowledgeable and gave a lot of information about different food items. After the market we went to the cooking location, which was a nice traditional outside kitchen. The cooking itself was a lot of fun and not too overwhelming, as she showed every step and also explained why we are doing this in the context of the whole dish. In the end we had made several traditional curries and salads, and I have to say so far on my trip this has been the best food I tasted, as it was (obviously) very freshly prepared and just a lot of care was put into all the components. Would very much recommend this cooking class!!
