• Hanthana Mountain - The Hanthana mountain range in Kandy is popular among those who like to go hiking, camping, bird watching and be close to nature in any way. Local songwriters, too, have lyricized the scenic beauty and tranquility of these mountains.Located 1240 m above sea level, the Hanthana mountain range stretches all the way from the Kandy city to the town of Galaha, 20 km south. The freshwater springs on the western end of Hanthana feed the waters of the Mahaweli river, and the tributaries of the river separate the individual hills of the range.In total, there are seven individual peaks, the highest being Ura kanda.

The operator will pick guests up at 6:00 AM from their hotel in Kandy and proceed to the starting point. Following a briefing, the hike will commence. The Hanthana mountain range, renowned for its diverse bird species, is perfect for bird watching. Hikers may spot various raptors and some endemic bird species.

The journey will take participants through the “Upper Lance” tea estates before reaching the Hanthana mountain range. Along the way, a footpath leading to Kandy offers excellent opportunities for bird watching and viewing the stunning landscapes of Kandy, Galaha, and Peradeniya. These towns can be seen up close during the hike. Additionally, there will be a visit to the Sri Lanka Tea Industry Museum, providing insights into the history of Sri Lanka’s world-renowned tea production. After the museum visit, the group will return to the hotel by vehicle.
