• Hanthana Mountain - The Hanthana mountain range in Kandy is popular among those who like to go hiking, camping, bird watching and be close to nature in any way. Local songwriters, too, have lyricized the scenic beauty and tranquility of these mountains.Located 1240 m above sea level, the Hanthana mountain range stretches all the way from the Kandy city to the town of Galaha, 20 km south. The freshwater springs on the western end of Hanthana feed the waters of the Mahaweli river, and the tributaries of the river separate the individual hills of the range.In total, there are seven individual peaks, the highest being Ura kanda.

We’ll collect you from your Kandy hotel at 6:00 AM and make our way to the starting point. Following a short briefing, we’ll embark on our hike. The Hanthana mountain range, with its abundant bird species, presents a perfect setting for bird watching. Some unique species of birds, including several raptors, could be in sight.
Our journey will take us through the “Upper Lance” tea estates en route to the Hanthana range. A trail heading to Kandy will be our path, offering opportunities to spot birds and admire the stunning scenes of Kandy, Galaha, and Peradeniya towns. Up close views of these towers await you along the way. We’ll pay a visit to the Sri Lanka Tea Industry Museum where you’ll gain a perspective on how Sri Lanka rose to become a world-leading tea producer. After soaking in the museum, we’ll hop back in our vehicle and return to the hotel.
