The best and most trustworthy guides, drivers and experiences! - We booked this tour before our trip to Sri Lanka and they got in touch with us immediately on WhatsApp. The pick up was just on time and the tour is exactly as explained. We were a group of 4 and there was 1 other person, so it felt like a private tour. After this tour, We arranged all our travels in Sri Lanka thru Mahaweli tours. They reply very fast and arrange everything within an hour. I especially want to thank Geesara our main tour coordinator. Even it wasn’t about the tours and drives Geesara answered all of our questions about anything :) I also want to Nilanka for his guidance thru this tour and thank Pathum, the best and most trustworthy driver we could ever ask for in Sri Lanka.

INCREDIBLE day. Highly recommend. - We had the most amazing day yesterday on this tour. A busy day but everything was organised to perfection and we loved every minute. Huge thanks to our tour coordinator Geesara and our driver Soyza, who we felt so safe with in the large comfortable vehicle we had for the day. Each step of the day was amazing and Soyza was flexible with any adaptations we wanted throughout. Didn’t catch the name of our tour guide for Lion Rock hike or the safari guide in Hurulu Eco Park, but both were also fantastic and made our day even more special. Would highly recommend, particularly if travelling in a group of friends. 🫶🏼🙌🏻

Well recommended - I had a great day with my driver Theekshana. Dambulla cave was very impressive and worth a visit. If you don't fancy climbing Sigiriya rock, you can get a good view from across the road (as i just discovered). The car that picked me up was very good and new and Theekshana is a great driver, safe and cautious.

Wonderful experience at Sigiriya by Mahaweli - drivers can be the wild card - Mahaweli tours are well organised and respond in a timely manner. I was able to organise a day trip to sigiriya just the night before. Also when my train ticket to Ella was cancelled by another tour operator Mahaweli was able to help me out and book me a last minute ticket which was greatly appreciated. They even had a driver deliver it to my hotel in the morning. Some criticism that I level more towards the drivers than to the actual tour company. I had agreed on a time with Mahaweli but the driver called me after and asked to change it to 6am which I agreed to but then he arrived 30 mins late. The driver constantly tried to upsell us a number of other activities which I didn’t want to do, such as spice market, village tour, etc. This is due to them getting a commission from any other activities we do. It got a little frustrating to be asked multiple times and having to strongly refuse in the end. Also there seemed to be a lot of talk from the driver about how one day trips are not worth it for them and how they are in so much debt. Essentially guilt tripping me to provide a big tip at the end. I understand that times are tough but I would have happily paid more from the beginning rather than have a driver constantly angling for extras. Just some feedback as these things can make the journey a little uncomfortable.

Deceptive package? - Keerthi, the driver was the best. He didn't get all the information about the parts of the tour, but he did a good job. We had no car with wifi and no bottled water. We didn't see the Siringiya village and hadn't a meal there. We didn't see the spice garden, because all that information wasn't told from the agency to the driver. So everyone should decide for themselves whether seeing the rest of the tour is worth it.

Be aware of a con men at Dambulla cave - Got ripped off by Sri Lankan con men selling Moon stone and other stones at Dambulla rock. The moon stone turned out to be completely fake, same as the other stones. Do not buy! (p.s. prior to buying, my local guide assured me that these stones aren't fake. Seems all the crooks work hand in hand together). Also, my guide sold me as an addition a Village trip", which was 10 minutes on a lake with something i would not even call a boat. And another 10 minute cow ride on a polluted main road. Poor cow looked like she is really suffering carrying a big log on her neck + 2 passengers. The "fun" costed 25 dollars - complete rip off! Dambulla cave itself is beautiful and worth a visit.
