Colombo to Kandy

Colombo - Day 1 – Arrival and hotel check-in at Kandy.

Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport today as per your itinerary, which includes a four-night stay and a five-day tour. A representative from Lanka Safe Tours will warmly welcome you at the airport. From there, proceed to Kandy.

Srī Mahā Bōdhi Temple - Next, visit Bahirawakanda Temple. The impressive Buddha statue here is a major attraction. Also known as “Sri Maha Bodhi Viharaya,” the statue stands 25 meters tall and can be climbed for a panoramic view of Kandy.

Royal Botanical Gardens - Located about 5.5 km west of Kandy in Sri Lanka’s Central Province, the Royal Botanic Gardens in Peradeniya attract 2 million visitors annually. Situated near the Mahaweli River, it is famous for its orchid collection.

Kandy View Point - Ascend the hill by Kandy Lake to reach the Kandy viewpoint for an unbeatable city view. Although popular with tourists, the area has many peddlers selling sub-par items and is known for pickpocketing, so be cautious. Enjoy stunning views over the lake and city from the hill.

Kandy Lake Club - Cultural Dance Show - Experience the vibrant Kandy cultural show, showcasing Sri Lanka’s rich culture and tradition through traditional dances. The show features “Salupliya” depicting demons, “Thelme” with low country rhythms, Fire and Harvest dances, and a Drum Orchestra. The Kandy Lake Club dance troupe performs 12 different folk and traditional dances in an hour.

Kandy to Nuwara Eliya

Ambewela Farms - Ambewela, a small town in the Nuwara Eliya District, is also known as “Little New Zealand.” Located about 17 km southeast of Nuwara Eliya, it serves as a hub for the New Galway tea planting district.

Seetha Amman Kovil - The Seetha Amman Temple is about 1 km from Hakgala Botanical Garden and 5 km from Nuwara Eliya, situated in the village of Seetha Eliya.

Hakgala Botanical Garden - One of Sri Lanka’s five botanical gardens, Hakgala Botanical Garden is the second largest in the country. The other gardens include Peradeniya, Henarathgoda, Mirijjawila, and Seetawaka Botanical Gardens.

Day 3 – Kandy to Bentota

Kandy - On the third day, travel to Bentota, a charming town in the Southern Province’s Galle District. After breakfast, head to the Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), a significant site for Buddhists worldwide, housing the Buddha’s left canine tooth. UNESCO recognized it as a cultural treasure in 1988. Then, visit the Kandy viewpoint for a spectacular city view before heading to Bentota for the night.

Bentota City Tour

Bentota - Explore the beautiful town of Bentota on day four. Enjoy cycling in a serene setting near the historic “Katukoliha temple” and vast rice fields. Discover the Mullegoda Temple’s stunning murals and the azure Dedduwa Lake. Visit Bentota beach, known for its serene and picturesque beaches, perfect for nature lovers and water sports enthusiasts.

Bentota River - Experience water skiing in Bentota, feeling the water beneath your feet and the wind in your hair. The beach offers a safe environment for sea skiing adventures, ideal for adrenaline seekers. Beginners can learn with the help of support personnel.

Bentota - Snorkeling and Diving: Bentota offers memorable diving experiences for all skill levels. Swim in the warm Indian Ocean with tropical fish and coral reefs, or navigate through abundant seaweed. It’s a must-try for anyone visiting.

Banana Boat & Tube Rides: Enjoy thrilling rides on banana tubes attached to a speed boat, with waves crashing over you. Choose between single-ring or couch rides, suitable for all ages.

Madu Ganga Biodiversity Area - Windsurfing: Bentota is perfect for windsurfing on crystal-clear waters, with ideal year-round conditions. Rent equipment or bring your own, and take lessons or sessions to learn or try windsurfing.

Enjoy more water sports and take a boat ride on the scenic Madu River near Balapitiya town in the evening. The creek forms islands and a stunning wetland ecosystem. End the day with a transfer to the hotel.

Day 5 – Colombo City Tour & Departure

Colombo - On the fifth day, explore Colombo, the Sri Lankan capital, before departure. After breakfast, visit Gangaramaya Temple, a significant temple combining traditional and modern architecture, located on Beira Lake. The lake, once larger, served various purposes during colonial times and is connected to canals for easy transport.

Colombo City Centre - Head to Galle Face, a 500 m long urban park spanning 5 hectares in central Colombo. Designed by Governor Sir Henry George Ward in 1859, it was originally larger. Visit the Independence Memorial Hall, commemorating Sri Lanka’s independence from British rule on February 4, 1948. Located at Independence Square in Colombo’s Cinnamon Gardens, it also houses the Independence Memorial Museum.

Colombo National Museum - The Old Colombo Dutch Hospital, built during the Dutch colonial era, is the oldest building in the Colombo Fort district. Now a culinary and shopping center, it offers mementos and dining options.
