Kampong Thom Province - 1-Visit: Skuon Spider Town.
Skuon Spider Town is the ‘alternative’ name for the town simply known as Skuon, renowned for its unique practice of hunting and eating spiders, specifically tarantulas. Although not the most famous of Cambodia’s tourist attractions, Skuon is located 55km north of Phnom Penh. The town’s distinctive culinary habits are gaining popularity, as both tourists and locals stop by to try these intriguing snacks. The consumption of these spiders began during the harsh rule of the Khmer Rouge when food was scarce and starvation was widespread. In Skuon, they were most commonly found, and the tradition has persisted to this day. Additionally, vendors from Skuon now travel to nearby villages and Phnom Penh to sell their products.
