These islands are polders, continuously drained by 18 restored polder mills that are still operational. Many of these mills are visible during the cruise. This is quintessential Holland: polders, cows, windmills, lakes, stunning views, and charming Dutch villages. The Green Heart is recognized as a national landscape. Each area within the Green Heart of Holland boasts its own distinct character and appearance, offering unique locations, landscapes, and cultural histories. Together, they create the Green Heart of Holland, a truly special landscape.

In less than half an hour from Leiden’s city hub, we’ll transport you to the stunning ‘Amsterdam lakes’. Relish the quintessential Dutch polder vistas upon your arrival. The defining features of this area include its flat lakes and scattered islands. These islands are actually polders that are continually drained by 18 functioning historical polder mills. The majority of these old-fashioned mills can be sighted during our voyage. We’ll navigate through polders inhabited by cows, islands adorned with old windmills, bright bulb fields, and breath-taking panoramas. With the lakes filled with an array of sailing and smaller boats, the scene couldn’t get more Dutch!
