Apartheid Museum - A visit to the Apartheid Museum is an emotional experience that may bring tears, as it reveals the harsh reality of how humans, created in God’s image, can mistreat each other as if they were different species. The brutality, torture, and mercilessness are beyond words. The driver does not need to enter the museum, as it is self-guided and logically leads visitors from one section to the next. However, you can choose to pay for the driver to accompany you if desired; otherwise, they will wait by the car until you finish.
NB: Closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. - Soweto - Soweto is South Africa’s largest township and the hometown of one of the world’s greatest leaders, Nelson Mandela! There is a wealth of history to learn here, and it is indeed very emotional. Over the years, much has changed, and the township is becoming more cosmopolitan, although slums can still be found in certain areas. The driver will point these out as you drive along.
- Orlando Towers - Tourists can view the massive Soweto Cooling Towers, which stand out in the Soweto skyline. Visitors can simply enjoy the sight of the towers or engage in thrilling activities like jumping from between the two towers, 100 meters down! There are also opportunities for mountain climbing, scad freefall, and viewing Johannesburg city from the top of the towers. Entrance to see the Soweto Towers is free; only the activities require payment.
- Hector Pieterson Museum and Memorial - The driver will take you to the Hector Pieterson Museum to learn about the 1976 Soweto Uprising by the youth of South Africa, who were fed up with the increasing racism fueled by Apartheid. The driver does not need to enter the museum with you, but you can pay for their company if you wish, as museum staff are always helpful to tourists.
- Mandela House - Here, you can reflect on memories of Mandela as a young boy who was passionate and had strong convictions about what is right and wrong. The driver typically will not join, as there are guides inside the house to show you around. You can also purchase curios and souvenirs outside Mandela House to take home and share the memories with friends and family.
