Constitution Hill Human Rights Precinct - Situated in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, near Hillbrow’s western edge, Constitution Hill is the location of South Africa’s Constitutional Court. Previously, the site was a fort and later a prison, known as Number Four. Initially constructed in 1892 for white male prisoners, the Old Fort was expanded by Paul Kruger between 1896 and 1899 to defend the South African Republic against British invasion. During the Anglo-Boer War, Boer military leaders were detained here by the British.

Soweto - Soweto (/səˈwɛtoʊ, -ˈweɪt-, -ˈwiːt-/) is a township within the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality in Gauteng, South Africa, adjacent to the city’s southern mining belt. Its name is an English abbreviation for South Western Townships. Once a separate municipality, it is now part of Johannesburg’s suburbs. Soweto gained global attention on June 16, 1976, during the Soweto uprising, when protests erupted against the government’s policy of enforcing education in Afrikaans. Police fired on 10,000 students marching from Naledi High School to Orlando Stadium in Orlando West. The unrest resulted in 23 deaths on the first day, including 21 black individuals, among them the young Hector Pieterson, and two white individuals, including Dr. Melville Edelstein, a dedicated humanitarian.

Pilanesberg National Park
Pilanesberg National Park - Situated north of Rustenburg in South Africa’s North West Province, Pilanesberg National Park borders the Sun City entertainment complex. Managed by the North West Parks and Tourism Board, the park is home to a diverse range of southern African wildlife, including the Big Five: lions, elephants, black rhinos, white rhinos, and Cape buffaloes. Other residents include leopards, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, hippos, and crocodiles. Although the Cape wild dog (Lycaon pictus pictus) was once eradicated by poachers, successful reintroduction efforts have brought them back. While the Big Five do not naturally inhabit this area, they have been introduced to the 550 square kilometers of African bushland. The reserve also hosts brown hyenas.
